Mac Users: Are macbooks as good as pc laptops?
Considering getting a macbook next year as I hope to be studying film. I'm used to PC, but I'm aware that most video editing software is only compatible with Mac.
Is it worth it? What problems have you encountered with mac that you do not with PC? I hear that Macbooks don't last as long as their desktop counterparts.
Thanks.

I'm an IT student in my senior year but have worked with computers since the 80's. I generally use a Windows based PC. In recent years I have used Linux on a PC quite extensively as well. I bought a MacBook Pro (used but in very good shape) recently, hoping to have this great experience with a Mac that I have had to endure listening to from my Mac friends for years. They always would bag on my PC saying Microsoft is evil and whatnot. Bottom line is I am unimpressed with the mac. I upgraded to Lion and the topuchpad suddenly became so sensitive that it was almost unusable. I couldn't find any settings to correct it either (finally found an app that someone put together to change some settings). I get application hangs on a daily basis. With a Core 2 Duo and 4 Gigs of Ram (newer ones have better specs) I don't have enough power to comfortably run a virtual machine though my pc with similar specs handles one just fine. Oh and I wanted to get a mouse for it but they're over $70. So I am real unimpresssed but I have to learn to work on them because they are too popular to ignore now. What I do like is the command line is similar to Linux and I can get around very well on it.

Definitely not. Macs are overprice and not as useful as as a PC. Macs attract people by its designs. If you are going to use it for receiving email surfing the internet or precessing documents, I recommend mac.You can use a PC for almost anything.
