Why is our society so celebrity obsessed?

I always wondered about that too, but I guess America is a celebrity-obsessed place, take note of the commercials advertising make-up,kids toys, such as barbies/brats, the media and what "news" is shown about celebrity life.. I say we have been a bit brain-washed by all the "perfect" images of celebrities. Celebrities, have money, thus have power, thus if they say something, we take it of much more of an importance than say, if some random person said it. It's sad how many young girls "glam" themselves up to be similar to a celebrity, throwing away the time of their childhood and growing up so quickly.

Maybe the American media should stop worshiping them, then no body would ever care about them. Here the Norwegian celebrities aren't important to anyone. One of the famous norwegian football player here bought a Ferrer car some years ago...guess what...the Jante law group ... which has these regulations...like "don't think you are better than us or don't think you are that important"...etc....made him to sell it back....lol...

Lay off America here.......It's happening everywhere not just the states,personally I blame the media for bombarding us with so called celebrities at every opportunity and the masses for being so gullible.

Because Americans dont have a monarchy. Seriously.

THERE ARE MANY CELEBRITIES THAT ARE PROFICIENT IN SPORTS AND INTELLECT SUCH AS BILL BRADLEY. HE WAS AN ALL-STAR AT PRINCETON AND THE NEW YORK KNICKS. WAS A RHODES SCHOLAR AND WENT ON TO BECOME A SENATOR.
