Is it me or has music just pretty much suuuucked after the 1980's?

Where are the modern versions of Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Doors, Led Zep, Bob Marley of the music world? Its been like Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Kanye, Taylor Swift and a lot of not very good writing and vocals. Even the 80's pop is sooo much better than that Po, Po,Po, Po, Poker Face nonsense.

It's pretty much gone downhill, i agree. I feel like I was born in the wrong era, and I cringe to think what the next generation of kids might be listening to! Still I've found there are a few gems that I've had to dig for. Some good post-90's artists are: Glen Hansard, Modest Mouse, Damien Rice, The Weepies, Franz Ferdinand, The Decemberists, Soundgarden, Jeff Buckley, Eva Cassidy, The Low Suns. Still, nothing beats all of the oldie goldie artists. They're legends.

It's really sad how musical standards have fallen so low.

Yeah, a lot of stuff you hear in the charts, on the radio and stuff is garbage. But, not all new music is that bad. The fact that people are getting fed the music they listen to, is annoying. If you search around enough though, they are some very, very talented Obscure artists out there that aren't getting the credit they deserve. Alot of music we hear today has been influenced a lot by older music. One example of an amazingly talent, obscure artist would be Beirut. Listen to them. They are very different, yet verrrry talented. ;)

It appears you are very secluded.

The "popular" music of the old-days compared to the "popular" music of today; well, there's no possible comparison - today's popular music sucks c*ck.

Howeeeverrr.. if you believe that there haven't been any good bands formed since 1980, man, just where have you been? I'm not sure if you're trolling or not, because there are questions like this daily, but I can literally name 1000 bands (with the help of iTunes~) that formed after 1980, and I'm sure you'd like at least one.

Reincarnations of artists are out there; I've heard one recently that reminded me completely of Led Zeppelin, but I forgot the band name.. >.>

Ah well. Google is your friend. Last.FM works best fo' me when discovering new music.

    BAI!

There is still good music out there but you've gotta look really hard for it underneath the piles of mainstream crap. The good stuff isn't gonna be handed to you on a silver platter, you've gotta do the work yourself. Go to local gigs, go on youtube, go on last.fm, go on social networking sites where you can discover new bands. The good ones are out there but they're just underground and away from the mainstreams eye

Dude, this freakin new generation sucks! They don't appreciate some good old tunes, they laugh at it and think its crap, they don't realize that a lot of the garbage that they listen to have gotten some of their influences and ideas from some of these older respected artist!

music in the 70's and 60's was epic. you missed pink floyd and the velvet underground!!! but there has still been nirvana, soundgarden, stone roses etc...

stop looking at the charts- the majority of people are idiots. look instead towards metal- which (despite the nu-metal blip in the late '90s/early '00s) is still going strong with more originality than the turd in the charts- Mastodon, for example, are awesome. but that's just an opinion.
