Do computer games make your computer run slowly?
My mother keeps saying that my Minecraft game has made our computer run slower over the past year, and I am wondering if her statement has any validity. It is true that our computer has gotten slower, but not as much as the world around it has gotten faster (we got this computer in 2005). I keep hearing about corrupted whatnots, but ignoring those, is there any way a game can "wear out" a computer.

I don't think so.
The only thing that slows down your computer are the services that are running and I don't think Minecraft is in your startup list.
And of course, the older the computer, the slower it'll work.
And if your HDD is more than 90% full, it'll also slow down.
I haven't played Minecraft, but I think it isn't such a hardware demanding game.
If your computer is running very slow, try this:
Download CCleaner and run the cleaner and disable the unnecessary startup programs in Tools - Startup.
Download a defragmentation program (Auslogics Disk Defrag, Defraggler,...) and defrag your computer.

Not really, when any program is not in use, the CPU would logically be freed up to do things fast. The only reason I can find would be that you have programs too powerful for the computer and it probably runs in the background using CPU speed that you are not aware of. So yes, in summation, your mother is wrong.

your computer is slower because it's from 2005, all computers die eventually. it's the circle of life for biological systems as well as computers. your mom is probably loading your computer with spyware anyways when she's looking at weird stuff on the net which is slowing it down.

No. Simply installing software doesn't slow down the computer (although the program does use resources while it's running).

what skill grant wattage do you have? thats a greater present day card that makes use of a PCIe 6pin skill connector and you need to be working a minimum of a 500W PSU. additionally thats a 2.0 card you're working in there. as nicely on your information superhighway connection your device is in all probability suffering to run with that GPU... EDIT thats a notably particular sign which you have an underpowered device and are killing your PSU and in all probability your GPU as nicely...

No, it can't wear out your computer. Your computer only slows down because of programs that you currently have running and using resources.

Yes it definitely can. Some have lots of ads and viruses that can slow it down. Also if he game has a lot of content that could slow it down too.
It could also be he connection your house gets or if somehow something is blocking it. (like a tree)
