Why is my tattoo mostly scar tissue?

I had a tattoo done 4 years ago on my inner wrist. It's about an inch big and is a dark red 'Special K' symbol. It was painful for weeks after being done (which i know isn't normal as I'm extensively inked) and is raised in some parts and dips in at others. Long story short it looks like dark red scar tissue. But I've never found out why this is??? The tat artist accepts no responsibility and seems oblivious to why this happened.

I was always told it was an allergic reaction to the ink. While I know some allergies can develop later, that's why they suggest an allergy test every time you color your hair, it seems odd that you're extensively inked and this is the first time there's been an issue.

A dermatologist is going to know better than anyone else, but you may have finally found a red you're allergic to. Its the most common ink to have a reaction in people. The artist (depending on how credible you found them to be, or how well you know the shop) should at least know the typical colors people react to, though they're still not going to accept responsibility as I'm assuming you signed the usual waiver.

If you have the time, seeing a dermatologist might be a good idea. If its still slightly irritating or the skin can be calmed in the raised areas, they might be able to get you a mild cream that could help.

You hit the nail on the head with your tattoo artist being oblivious. If he knew, he wouldn't of done it. Scaring like that is always caused by a scratcher that doesn't know what he is doing.

Thats the differance between an scratcher and an artist. sounds like he was uneven and scar tissue hope the equipment was clean
