CAN I APPLY FOR STATE COLLEGES?

I am not aiming for any noteworthy prestigious colleges. I`m only aiming for any 4 year State Universities/State Colleges I could be able to get accepted into.

WILL STATE UNIVERSITIES/COLLEGES ACCEPT ME IF I HAVE A ``D``??

I am a senior in high school who lives in california and i really want to attend a state university / university in new york. however...i have a low gpa..2.9. Throughout my high school years, i have had only A's, B's, and C's as my grades. HOWEVER, during my junior year, second semester, i received a D in algebra two trig and i was so disappointed!! im making up that class though, but i wont be done making it up until november. I scored 1800 on my SAT score and I am in two programs: AVID ( for five years) and Volunteers of Upward Bound America ( three years)

is it better for me to fill out college applications this month or should i wait until december? by december, ill be able to be finish making up that D i got in aglebra two trig and ill end up with all A's, B's, and C's as my 9th-11th grades only :)

i really want to attend a state university in new york because here in california, the public schools are full of budget cuts and i want to try living in a new state like new york to be independent

yes, i know that attending an out of state college will cost more than the students who are already living in states and have residency

i heard that registering for colleges earlier is better..

THESE ARE MY CLASSES that i am taking for my senior year right now and I am doing very WELL in them .

vietnamese honors 4

ap economics

ap government

avid

physics (4th year of science)

art of flim

college prep english

    Hi Andrew

Find which schools in the SUNY system are likely to admit you by using one of the free online college search services. 2 decent services are:

    collegeboard.com

    cappex.com

You will need your CR and M scores from the SAT and also it helps enormously if you have a probable major course of study.

Also apply to a few CSUs to cover all the possibilities.

Apply now - if they won't take you with your current grades, the additional one semester will not change it that much.

You must complete all the CalState A-G requirements to be accepted into any CSU campus. That means you must make up that Algebra II course at your HS or take a similar course at a community college.

Unless you come up with at least $60,000 in cash, you have no chance of being able to afford going to any SUNY or other out-of-state public university. You better inform yourself about the annual maximum in Federal student loans that you can get. You might as well forget about going out-of-state for anything -- it's not a choice that you have. The maximum loans you can get won't even cover any CSU unless you live at home and work part-time. Your best chance of being able to afford college in California will be to attend a local community college to prepare for transfer to a CSU or UC, depending on college GPA for transfer, while still living at home if at all possible. The cost of living independently will not be funded through federal loans because you'll exceed the maximum expenses, unless your family is poor and you qualify for the maximum in State University Grants and Federal PELL grants, otherwise, every dollar of your loans will be needed to cover the in-state tuition and fees alone. If you don't make up that math class to have 3 years of HS credit, then community college will be your only option, since no CSU is going to accept you without it. The situation with getting classes will be the same at SUNY, so your reasons for going out-of-state aren't valid in any case. You might as well learn right now that what you want to do and what you will be allowed to do are two different things.
