Why are the Occupy Wall Street Protesters protesting Wall Street rather than government?

They claim they have no demands or goals (as noted by one of the disorganized protesters who did an interview on the news) but they want all debt wiped (magically), all school loans paid for (magically), and free health insurance (magically) but they blame Wall Street for creating opportunity and being the reason why the United States is the most prosperous country in the world rather than government who is taking our tax money, spending it on things we don't want (including a bailout that was forced down Wall Street's throat). Since when did the "big evil corporations" force people to fork over money and then spend it in erratically foolish fashion like government has? I watched one group hold signs and chant through a microphone saying "The banks got a bailout, we got sold out" but they are protesting Wall Street rather than government.

Are the protesters just an unorganized liberal fringe attempting to come up with their own type of TEA party movement? The last time I checked, the TEA party movement organized peacefully, developed sensible goals, and changed the direction of the country at the voting booth rather than gaining support from the Nazi party, the Socialist Party, Communist China, defecating on police cars, littering and destroying park property, and blaming capitalism for our country's success.

They have no clue what caused the meltdown or they would all be in DC. The banks do what government has them do according to their legislation. Even if the banks lobbied for those measures, it was the government that caved into them. Protesting the banks for reform is like protesting the banks for tax reform. Its ludicrous.

I don't understand that either. The government is supposed to serve the people. They are the ones who need to be held accountable by the people. The only purpose of any firm is to maximize its own profits, so the idea that we should expect a business to turn away government handouts is completely ridiculous. They will do whatever it takes to stay in business, regardless of public opinion. If we are against certain companies receiving bailouts, we should be holding the government accountable for giving the bailouts in the first place. They are the source of the problem. They are the ones who create the moral hazard when they declare that a bank is too big to fail. We shouldn't be surprised when banks respond by taking more risks once there is an implication that the government will bail them out if they fail.

I heard one reason why they are "protesting Wall Street" is that it is not only practical in their minds, but it is also symbolic. They do blame the governments, I have watched just about every video on there and I have heard MANY different wants. And they turn them back on the government, and also I believe they meant that the government bailed the corporations out.

In a way, I think they are protesting the government, but there are so many doing it there is not only one agenda. In my mind, my opinion is that at least someone is saying something. At least there is this. Maybe it will slowly evolve into something even better, in truth, who knows? I don't, and no one knows.

Also, I haven't heard of any of them "gaining support from the Nazi party, the Socialist Party, Communist China, defecating on police cars, littering and destroying park property", but you know.

  • Capitalism is the cause of the country's success? Oh really now? Gtfo. The people shouldn't have to suffer to bring success to the country. It starts off as a protest, THEN RIOTERS. Eventually organizations will form which will over throw the government just so people like YOU can finally acknowledge the issue at hand. What else will the unemployed do? People will want democracy if this continues. WALLSTREET IS THE CAUSE OF CAPITALISM. The government is the republic. Are you against the republic now? What does our pledge to the country say? You supporting liberalism? **** businesses these days. Selfish pricks.

well the government is hardly going to allow green marxism free food from forests and free stores for food ideas . a referendum on this is possible but the government might rig that outcome .

of course communal property instead instead of real estate is another issue . home less are home less because of that right? you have no worker owned property or sell your house no home right?

real estate stocks located at wall street which organizes financial set up.

trace the money in banks to real estate there.

The protesters are non-partisan, they would say they are liberal, if they were liberal, but they do not. They just have common sense. And quit using that "defecating on police cars" crap. No one ever did that, those are just slanderous FOX lies. They really should be at D.C. instead, but I guess the corporations are just as much to blame as the government is.

Nice to construct a straw man, then destroy it.

But the OWS people decided to go to the source of the rot rather than the symptom. Is that wrong? History will answer that, not our pontificating before the fact.
