Have you ever been persecuted for your belief or non-belief?
I think atheists and believers probably have a lot more in common than they realise.
I am an atheist, and I have received bigotry and persecution for my atheism. When I was a christian, I also received bigotry and persecution for that.
Anyone else, believer or atheist, have a similar experience? What was your experience like? Who persecuted you, and why?
I'm an Australian, and was raised in a small town community. My mother is a pretty fundamentalist christian and we were raised in a pretty strict church.

yes. other than a lot of heat online, craigs list threads no fun lol,
Once i cried from a very inhumane episode from craigs list... i had no idea people were that cruel, even if your the most decent person on the thread.
physically:
I've had a first class petty officer start riddling me with rapid fire questions about my beliefs, and he got mad that i didn't want to talk about it. He touted that I had to reply because my belief says I must(not true). He came off very threatening. He is a "boss" of sorts, and actions like that have no place at work, especially not from a boss.

Persecution is a sad act, it never truly convinced anyone to believe in the way the users of this unfortunate system would like them to believe.
If Christians use it, they betray one of their faith's deepest teachings, the Second Commandment.
If others use it, they are really advertising that their belief system is totally intolerant, and not suited for the modern world.

Yes, I'm being persecuted right now for being atheist by my aunt and uncle that I live with. Thus far it has not been a very good experience, as you can imagine.

When I mentioned my atheism in a high school current events class, some douche said it wouldn't matter if he killed me because my life isn't worth anything. That's about as close to persecution as I've gotten.

Just on here.
Very few people in real life know I'm atheist, so no one really has the opportunity to persecute me for my non-religiousness.

im no longer an atheist, yet i understand the place u r coming from, and that i'm no longer persecuting u for no longer believing. I dont get this way of persecution, however the subject I incredibly have with atheists is whilst a individual with faith is expressing it and that they tell them they r incorrect and tht they shouldnt have self assurance...and protests at churchs...thts no longer actual, anyone has the spectacular to have self assurance in whtever they please....you shouldnt ask r u bored with purely persecution, you will desire to ask r u bored with injust persecution

" I am an atheist, and I have received bigotry and persecution for my atheism "
I believe you, but find it very hard to believe. Being an atheist or liberal in this day and age is as easy as falling off a log. Our education, entertainment and media outlets cater to liberals and atheist while portraying Christians as nerds who dress badly, think sex is dirty and wear bad clothing.
But to answer your question. Yes. I had people at work and on Facebook exclude me from their company because I talked about God often. But yet they could cuss like drunken sailors and I had to accept that.
