What is your biggest pet peeve in or about Figure Skating?

I was randomly thinking about this during math class today, and I was curious as to what other people's pet peeves are when it comes to figure skating. I have quite a few, but I'll list some of my major ones.

- Sit spins that aren't actually sit spins. I hate it when people say they have a great sit spin, but they're barely sitting at all!

- When people say "Oh, Figure Skating! That's like ballet on ice, right?" Um... no.

- When people say "That looks so easy! Can you teach me?" This happened on a school trip to an ice rink last year; I demonstrated a double loop and some girl who really hates me - and was wearing hockey skates - said that. So I laughed and told her to give it a go. The end result was hilarious ;)

Anyone else have anything that bugs them? Whether it be about skating in general, scoring systems, competitions, etc.

Kind of a random question, but I haven't asked any questions in forever... so yeah, I'm going to shut up now.

Edit: @thatcutegirlxo If people under Freeskate 1 didn't compete, my sister would have gone 5 1/2 years of skating without competing. And she's not getting any younger, she's almost 17.... Plus those low level skaters are what bring the most profit in for clubs hosting competitions, we tried a competition only Low Beginner and up, and my club lost a ton of money without those Basic Skills skaters. Plus the little ones are so adorable! Yeah, its your opinion, but its rude, if I may say so....

-That there are no guys who skate in my area that I could do ice dance with (there's a few, but they're not interested in dance, or they're too tall for me, or too short, or too young....).

-When people at school ask "you're a figure skater? So can you like, do a triple axel?". Um, there's more to skating than triple axels....

-That my schools have never had field trips to the skating rink. Omg I would have SO much fun with that, literally skating circles around people...

-That there's no freestyle times at my normal rink these past few months, its all like 10:45am, and we all have school! Wtf!

-That other skaters think they're good at something they're horrible at.

-When people just stop where they are and gape at me when I'm doing my program with music headed right towards them, and they won't move an inch!

Anyways, there's more, people frustrate me....

    - as clearly mentioned, people who think that low level skaters should not compete

    - this kind of goes in with the last one, but people who look down upon freestyle 1 skaters over the age of 12. Not everyone starts when they are 4, and many people can't afford to come down and skate every day for 2hrs. It DOES NOT mean they don't try hard enough.

    - skaters who, because they are the best skater at the rink, think that they are above everyone else and they are entitled to do whatever they want wherever they want on the rink without any regard to other skaters.

    - that for a lot of skaters, no matter how amazing your competition routine is in practice, it's is never as good when actually competing

    - more bad skating days then good skating days

    - falling in an extremely embarrassing way

    - your ponytail getting in your face when you are spinning or jumping

    - the high risk of accidentally stepping on the ice with your guards on

    - people who say "oh you figure skate, can you do a twirly thingy?" ...twirly thingy?

    - when people who are not figure skaters watch you skate and are disappointed you cant do a triple axle

    - SO EXPENSIVE

    - if you skate with your sister who is at the same level, there is inevitable occasionally rivalry to be better than her

    - rinks that close for the summer

    - lack of male skaters who are not your same level and age

    - you can get very frustrated very easily

    - skaters that occupy/ "claim" one area of the rink and don't leave it (for example a hockey circle)

    - when you do something really amazing when your coach isn't there/ not

Looking, and totally mess it up when you have to do it in front of them

    - some of the really intense skating moms

    - bruises

    - the figure skating vs. Hockey battle for rink time

    - When you've used up all of the following:

    'My blades are blunt'

    'I have raging PMS

'I've got a problem with my right foot'

'I think I'm coming down with a cold'

    'I'm having a bad day

'These skating boots are crippling my foot'

'My boots are either too tight or too loose today'

'I feel too intimidated by the elite skaters'

  • - Stupid embarrassing falls

    - When you're forced to fall to avoid a collision that's not your fault

    - Scratches and scuff marks on my boots - inevitable, yes, but they were almost $700!

    - When I can do something during practice but not in front of my coach

    - Clueless coaches who have their students do inappropriate things during lessons such as T-stops from the rink center to the boards cutting across high traffic (DUH!) or throwing ice shavings at each other and anyone else unfortunate enough to be passing by

    - Kids chasing each other all over the ice in every direction and throwing water bottles, guards, etc.

    - When the rink guards get a little too crazy and are the ones wiping people out

    - PDA - people standing around just chatting is nothing compared to couples getting a little bit too much into each other on the ice. Maybe I'm just a prude.

    - Crappy ice - too small, too soft, wet, ruts, potholes, bumps

    - People who don't understand that skating is one of my basic needs in addition to food, water, clothing and shelter

    - Kids who tell me I'm not supposed to be able to jump because I'm old

    - Elite skaters with ugly layback spins - must be from listening to too much **** Button commentary

    - How the current judging system is still biased and takes away a lot of artistry and individuality since everyone ends up doing the same transitions and other irrelevant moves just to get points

    - Skating outfits where to the top is nearly all nude material with maybe a few strategically placed motifs

I have a lot, many which I can't actually recall right now, but if I think of any later I shall add them. :)

-When non-skaters say figure skating dresses are "short and sl*tty". (such as my school friends..)

-People who come to freestyle sessions and spend the whole time chatting, standing around or just watching other people - if you're not going to practise, why bother coming?

-When people try to give "advice" and just say b!tchy comments instead of constructive criticism, especially if the one they are giving "advice" to is a higher level than them. Once this girl on YouTube commented on one of my videos basically saying "You're crap" (except her comment was a bit more explicit) so I looked at her profile and she could barely do a waltz jump while I was working on axels at the time...then I found out she skated at my rink (which she didn't know) so I confronted her in person..hehe, bit of a nasty shock for her but serves her right, being rude to people online!

-When young skaters are inspired by the "mean girl skaters" in movies like Ice Princess and Go Figure, and then assume that they have to be snobby b!tches too to fit in with the sport...

-Pushy skater parents. Need I say more?

-Skaters who start late and, when they are in basic, assume that they can go to the Olympics.

-People who encourage the above with "_anything is possible if you just belieeeeeve in yourself!_<3!".

If you intend to impress on the basketball court with a quick wonderful vertical jump you will require this program https://tr.im/bIYUo , Vert Shock.

Simple and easy, this exercise plan, Vert Shock is about technique and minimizing mistakes. It can help you perfect your kind to an amount of top performance athletes like Flower and Lebron.

Therefore, whether if you're old, young, or somewhere in-between, whether you're a master or just a person who likes to shoot hoops in his driveway, this system is the key to leaping larger and getting better. The program requires your game to a brand-new level.

thatcutegirlxo - That is really super incredibly RUDE AND B!TCHY. People under Freestyle 1 have worked hard to get to that point. Are you saying that had I still been under Free Skate 1 by competition I shouldn't have bothered because I'm a "loser who can only do bunnyhops"? What next? Are you going to say that anyone without an axel shouldn't compete?!

    Peeves:

    - Rude cows like thatcutegirlxo who think anyone who's still a Basic or low-level Freestyle isn't good enough for anything

    - People who say "why bother, you're not going to the Olympics" when I tell them I skate

    - People who say skating's not a sport

    - People who say all the men in skating are gay (my dad :(((((( )

    - People who say all the men capable of the big quads are on steroids (my dad :((((((( )

    - kids who come to the rink toting zucas and wearing chloe noel everything who just stand around and chat

    - actually, people who just stand around and chat, period

    - Skaters falling multiple times in a program and still winning (Yes, I'm looking at you, Mr Patrick "Human Zamboni" Chan)

    - People who say Plushenko is always overmarked

    - People who say Plushenko has no artistry, but Lysacek does...

    (more to come)

-when people say figure skaters are just stuck up rich girls with no boobs

-when people say figure skating is easy

-when people say figure skating isn't a sport

-when girls think they are all that

-when people under freestyle 1 compete (the whole program is bunny hops..like come on!!)

    -coaches that are really forgetful

-people that are honest but not in a helpful way..ex. "your jump sucks"

-when i watch skating with other people or im at the rink with my friends and everytime someone does something and they say "can you do that?"

-when people ask, "you figure skate? oh so can you do a spin thing in the air?"

thats all i can think of right now.(:
