I am obsessed of big words and keep on using them? Please help?

Hi,

So yet I am here again. This time, my problem is that I tend to use big words in not so appropriate occasions. Let me talk about something that happened to me this friday. I went out with a couple of classmates to celebrate a person's birthday. If you want me to be more specific, then I went to a bar. Here, we starting discussing about different topics and a big word pops up now and then out of my mouth. It was inappropriate like hell. They react to these big words and look oddly at me. Then, I said to them that I have felt awkward and different my entire life and also, about how I never will be able to get a girlfriend. They all look at eachother and approve to what I had to say. Then, I go on about how ugly my appearance is(I wear glasses) and I state that my looks is repelling. They disapprove and tell me that I am attractive, but that it is my behavior I have to change. Apparently, I am quite immature when it comes to social interaction and to add something to that, I am shy. Very shy. I can't even look people into their eyes, especially girls, because I think that they will only find me creepy and weird.

So, what's my problem then? Well... I use big words in oral discussions and in writing. Even my English teacher pointed this out. He could agree that I had a very good knowledge of English but then how I apply that knowledge, is fragmented. Why? I don't know. He even called my talking pace slow and that it could have been caused by environmental factors. I was pissed. Like... very furious. A teacher has no rights whatsoever to insult their student- it just contradicts the school law. He should be fired. That was my first thoughts of his comment but when I think about it, he was so right in spot. He knew what he said and he was quite competent as well. Probably the best English teacher I have had in my life. Anyhow, I am starting to think that it might have something to do with my intelligence. It feels impaired, somewhat. Difficulty to focus, difficulty to think straight, behavior issues (tantrums at times I become irritated), no friends. Then I have odd interests.

I am a person that exhibits the following behavior:

1. OCD- Listen to the same song at least 1000 times before getting tired of it.

2. Achohalia- use the same words often.

3. Socially-handicapped. I told you guys about this earlier.

4. Love writing and playing the piano- I seriously don't know why.

5. I can't understand written text properly. Takes lots of time for me to process the information that has been read or taken in. This is related to my learning-difficulty. I seem to learn best whenever seeing something visually, like on a monitor or the whiteboard. Visual-type.

6. Average-to above average in math skills. My difficulty is not in how to solve the problem but rather, how to understand it. My reading comprehension limits my ability to do them.

7. Depressed. Perfectionism is what I have. I always want the best grade and fast, without having to work for it. And even if I work for it and get a, let's say, a B+ or A-, I become sad and very irritated at myself. I then start complaining on futile factors etc..

8. Schizophrenic, just a bit. Talking to myself when bored is something that I do on a daily basis. I have no friends, so I engage myself in intellectual conversations. It is weird and not normal at all.

That's all. Please help?

Well as far as the big words, face it, most people don't even get them anymore. And of course they would rather make you look uncomfortable than admit they don't get it.

I think your trying to hard. Your focusing on yourself on other peoples time and lets face it, unless they are very dear friends, they will not give good advice or will just act uninterested.

You sound like you have an above average intelligence, but you are focusing so hard on all aspects of your life that it is leading you on a very negative path (concerning yourself).

Some of the things you listed are very positive and some people would love to play the piano.

Instead of reading our nonsense on the internet, try a good counselor or therapist that will really listen and try to guide you outside yourself.

    I wish you the best.

    8. You are seriously self-absorbed. Find a hobby outside of yourself.
