Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth and blasphemy. In his era the Greeks worshiped multiple Gods. Plato wrote up "The Apology" as his version of the speech that Socrates made. He knew he was going to his death yet was fearless in the light of his fate. He ultimately defended his thoughts and beliefs even though it cost him his life. Socrates led the next two generations of philosophers that have influenced and led the world of reason for the last 2,000 years, reaching millions of people. He taught Plato, who wrote "The Allegory of the Cave" and in turn Plato taught Aristotle. Aristotle taught Alexander the Great who nearly conquered the entire known world in his era.

Socrates's basic defense was to show that his accusers were lying. He said they were spreading gossip and slandering him unfairly. He revealed character flaws in his accusers relevant to the case. Socrates also showed the contradictions and fallacies in the charges held against him. Nevertheless, he was still found guilty and sentenced to death by the drinking of the poisonous Hemlock.
