Does SLI scale down a stronger card to match a weaker one?

I'm currently using a GTX 560 TI 1gb card and I had recently ordered a mirror card but a 2gb version.

I've read though that a card like my 2gb I ordered would only be able to utilize 1gb of that v-ram due to the other card being 1gb; is that true and if so; are specs always toned down like this in all respects when doing SLI? ( Clock speeds, shaders, etc )

    No

The cards no longer sync together unless forced

Each card can run at individual clock speeds

But the vram thing is true

Yes it will scale the clock speed back to the slowest cards clock speeds. At the same time you can possibly overclock the 2 cards up a little using MSI afterburner... It isn't so much of a scaling down, it is just making the 2 cards act the same, for better performance...
