scans files you download for safety and gives you a guide as to whether they're a virus or not

gets rid of any viruses you get or already have

"optimises" pc performance

Disadvantages:

slows down your PC ever so slightly (it's not noticable)

costs money

Internet security software doesn't protect the internet, for you to really understand this a lesson on the internet is needed.

the internet is just lots of computers talking to each other

a webpage is a file downloaded from another computer (your browser displays it as a webpage)

so right now your computer is telleing the yahoo server (powerfull computer) to give it the file to show this page, it downloads it and tah-dah you're reading this answer.

However, other computers can try to download hings like viruses etc... to your computer. Anti-virus software has definitions of viruses and (really basically) tells the computer not to download them. If your computer does download a virus then anti-virus software will try to get rid of it, or at least stop it from affecting your computer. The thing is though, it is possible to hack anything, if someone really wanted to they could hack anything if they were good enough, but for domestic use norton will stop pretty much everything.

Norton is a great anti-virus program, but really if you're not doing a lot of high security shyte on your computer just get Microsoft Security Essentials, I'm sure it performs just as well.

I had Norton and it protects against Hackers, unwanted viruses Ect..

It doesnt have a very long life span and if you choose to keep to Norton you have to buy it second time round

After Norton is finished download AVG it lasts longer

I've used it & in short I can say that it is the strongest security for PC :) But it consume much RAM & make your computer little slow if you have old PC :) And It is not free ! :)
