Why are so many Aussies upset about the RWC final result?

Seriously, they weren't even involved, but if you have a look at some of the Aussie websites (and here) there are a heap of them bitching and moaning that:

McCaw cheats (real original)

Joubert was biased (funny how no one complained about Lawrence when he gave them game against SA!)

NZ choked (anothe good one - we won idiots)

NZ didn't give respect to France for the great game they played (this one I don't get, either we choked, or France played a great game - you can't have both)

And my favourite, that peculiar Aussie thing where they pretend they don't care and simultaneous make a sweeping, nasty generalisation about all of NZ - something like

"Well done, we all know Rugby is the only thing you have because you live in a cruddy little country and you all have chips on your shoulders and shag sheep"

My take on it is that NZ played a huge game against Aussie in the semis, where France had a reasonably easy one against 14 men (easy as far as RWC semis go anyway), we were tired and beat up, but hung on for the win when it mattered against a passionate and committed French side who showed all the class we knew they had but hadn;t shown yet.

So - why are the Aussies so upset? They weren't even there! .

Why can't some of them show the class and dignity of the French?

Update:

EDIT

Sorry - yes I should add that this doesn't apply to all, or even most Aussies, most of my mates are pretty gracious about it (once we finish ribbing each other) it just seems like a lot of people have jumped on the interwebz to proclaim that they don't care and that they hate us anyway.

Aussies are bitter. Their press built them up to be something they weren't and they didn't like the treatment of Quade Blooper who made himself public enemy #1 through his own actions. Even the week leading up to the semi final he was interviewed saying All Blacks were chokers. Really smart thing to say a few days before having to face them on a ground they haven't won on in 28 years.

They ran a poll on nine wide world of sport the morning of the semi and 82%, yes 82% of Aussies were confident they would win.

As for the semi final, we played against Australia to win. We went out there to win the game. In the final rather than play to win, we played to not lose. We didnt treat France with the respect we treated Aussie. We started off the first 20 minutes or so doing what we did against Australia but after we hit the front we reverted to the ugly 10 man style South Africa has used for the best part of four years.

We got the win but not the way we should of. With the monkey off our back 2015 might see an All Black side ready to open up without the pressure to perform of past world cups.

Winners are grinners Andrew. You really need to take a chill pill. I watched the match. It was a good game. I wanted the French to win They didn't - thats life. I didn't have a problem with the ref. He wasn't perfect but I don't think he had an influence on the game. With regards to Lawrence, he had a terrible tournament but did he really influence results. It's not Lawrence's fault the Boks blew trys and missed kicks. If they can't win a game like that no-one can complain that Lawrence gave us the game.

For the record, Macaw does cheat. He's exceptionally good at it. Lots of rugby players cheat - they always have. Guys who are good at it don't give away penalties. Guys who aren't do. Its been part of the game at the highest level all my life and when people accuse the Macaws... of cheating by and large they're just being hypocrites. No-one complains when their guy gets away with it and everyone would love a player as good as Macaw on their team. It's a nothing argument.

I only looked at a few blogs and didn't really notice much of what you say. I saw a few insults but I also saw some angry kiwis who seemed to want to start fights. There were also a lot of people who lauded the ABs in the manner they deserve. It all seemed pretty standard to me which is probably why I didn't read to much.

I've always found the average Aussie rugby fan to more gracious than than the average kiwi rugby fan who suffer from from an inexperience at losing and find it vitually impossible respecting the other team coming up with the 'dead rubber slur' after Hong Kong, the 'we were tired from the travel/you had an easy draw" after the S15 and the 'we weren't trying cos of the RWC/played a B side in South Africa' after the tri-nations decider. It cuts both ways Andrew. You have to give respect to get it. I know you don't give credit to my arguments but thats what a lot of people here think. And in my experience, Kiwis hate Aussies far more than we hate you. Maybe if your fellow countrymen would stop slurring Aussies and everything Australian at every opportunity you might get more of the respect and dignity you seek.

As an Aussie i will say congratulations to the All Blacks for playing great football all tournament and winning the final.

All credit to the NZ team and their coaching staff.

Personally i'm not upset about the result. At least Bill is staying in the Southern Hemisphere where it belongs, but shame on the NZ fans for booing everything Australia did, not just Quade Cooper.

NZ fans boo'ed the Aussie national anthem. Disgraceful? Phuck yes!

Whenever an international event like the Olympics or the Rugby World Cup is hosted in Australia, you won't hear any of us boo'ing other countries like that. We cheer for all.

Good on you NZRU. Shame on you NZ fans. Bad sportsmanship like that doesn't sit right with me.

I can understand that you all may have boo'ed and hissed Australia because we are your biggest rivals but that doesn't make it ok in the slightest.

What happened to the ANZAC spirit?

My knee-jerk reaction to your header, ie your question is because they did not partake (ie win) the RWC Final.

I assume (since I reside in Alaska) that Australia and NZ are big rivals.

I do know for a fact, even though we statesmen (USA) lost big time to many nations, and can say without a doubt that the Aussies DO CARE that their neighbors (the Kiwis) won it all! Repeat = it ALL as in the Rugby World Cup trophy! That alone is tantamount to really, really, really, REALLY caring a big deal.

One point, 5 points, or winning by 60 points does not matter, the All Blacks were the BEST this RWC season.

Hats off to the stellar All Blacks!

As a distant fan I am very proud of the Kiwis and their All Blacks! they deserved it!

What you've said doesn't apply to all Aussies. Some of them are actually super nice, decent people (I'm probably going to regret that comment though). There are plenty of Australians who have congratulated New Zealand on ending the 24 year drought, but of course there will always be some opposed to the result.

Fortunately I take what Australians say with a grain of salt. Their opinions lack all credibility simply because they're Aussies. ;)

As far as I'm concerned, the scoreboard says it all and in time, France, and even Australia, will come to accept that. Until then, we should just ignore Australians and their awful accents. I'm joking, I promise. I love you, Australia, but quit making those sheep jokes and calling McCaw a cheat. Otherwise we'll take back Ioane and O'Connor (you can keep Cooper and Deans) and then you'll be really doomed.

To my neighbours across the ditch,

NZ won. That was on Sunday, like two whole days ago. Let's just move on. Good luck to The Wallabies in 2015.

I tipped the ABs from day 1. They were the better side and deserved it.

Lawrence had a poor RWC overall. He made mistakes affecting both sides in the Saffa game.
