Is paintless paintball any less painful than traditional?
I know it's still something flying at you from a paintball gun, but I was hoping to use "less painful" as a selling point to people who have never been out paintballing before. Thanks.
To be clear, one reason they don't go is because they've already heard it's painful.
I was just wondering if there's a difference besides not having paint on your clothes.

Paintless paintball is used in many indoor facilities. They use little rubber balls often called "reballs". At the end of a few matches, they'll sweep the balls back up and they can be used again. Do they hurt less? Actually...
The common speed limit in a regular tournament is 300fps
For common local woodsball paintball is 280fps
Some indoor ranges limit to 260fps
I've never seen a reball facility higher than 250fps
So one would have to assume they hurt more than a regular paintball at equal speeds. Energy is dispersed when a paintball breaks. That rubber ball is going to transfer almost all of it's energy to whatever it hits.
But in real world applications, does it indeed hurt more? I've been hit by both, it's about the same. But keep in mind, like I said, this was at a slower speed.
If I was you, I'd lie to my friends to get them to go. I have 8 and 10 year olds at my local woodsball field. So quit being a baby. :-)

Yes Paintless paintball does hurt more. It is mostly because the bullets they use are little round rubber ball that are like the bullets Police Officers use to take down suspects with out hurting them but, only smaller. The bullets shoot out of a gun (which a regular paintball gun) at 300 mph and when they hit you they bounce off you leaving you with the feeling of being shot.
The clothes thing only matters how tough you are. I am a tomboy and I went in with nothing but a tank top, jeans and mask, didn't hurt much for me (i am really tough) but left one hell of bruise. The mask is really important if you don't want eye damage.

I don't think I have ever heard of paintless paintball. I do remember seeing some fake paintballs that do not break, but I believe that would hurt more than a regular gelatin paintball just hitting you and breaking. The paintball that doesn't break would definitely hurt more due to the energy not being dissipated when it hits a target. Just play the normal version of paintball and tell them to wear two to three shirts. When they gain more confidence or become too hot, they can just peel a layer off. The thing with new players is that they hear all these terrible things about paintball, and basically none of them are true. Paintballs sting a bit when hit directly on skin, but when it hits clothing you barely feel it. Just keep telling the people that paintballing does not hurt.

If they haven't been out paint balling why bring up pain period? Then you will get them thinking more about the pain than the fun.
