So...The 48 will now be inspected after each of the final races. Is that fair?

The whole thing was an interesting story . But it was a non-event. Why should they be penalized?

Update:

RT @DNewtonespn: Knaus met with Helton and others this morning. No. 48 will be called for post-race inspection remainder of the year.

From what I have read they will be at the top of the list for post race inspections at the R&D center not mandatory. I don't really think this is a issue to worry about simply because this sort of thing happens every time they go to plate tracks. Its all thanks to NASCAR templates. Remember last year with the 33 team. They just are trying to cover their ***. When the two car draft happens they are pretty much doing fender bender wrecks at 200 mph. Eventually the frame, and body are going to bend. If NASCAR does not see any damage to the car they will penalize and fine the team. For those who think that Chad and the 48 team are no more then a bunch of cheaters why don't you all look at the other teams that got busted for having unapproved windshields.

Jay - http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm#20111026h click that and then read the end of "UPDATE 2".

As far as being fair, as long as they obey the rules the 48 team should have no problem. Also the 48 team has been caught crossing tolerances before. What Chad said isn't proof that they were cheating, I read that Chad knows about tolerances and he just wanted to make sure they didn't go over the line, being Dega. You also have to look at it from NASCAR's POV, if you were in charge of NASCAR and wasn't biased, would you want a crew chief saying that and let them get away with it like it was nothing? Plus it's only 4 races, it's not like only half of the season is over. NASCAR probably just wants to make sure the 48 team doesn't cross the tolerance line to try to come back and make up the 50 points to win the 6th championship. Again, if the 48 doesn't cross that tolerance line then they have nothing to worry about, they've gone the most times this season I believe as the random car and they've passed every time, so I don't think it's a huge deal since it's only for 4 races.

The 48 cheat and always has knauss has been caught at least 10 times. NASCAR will not do anything nor ever will to Hendricks or any of his teams. hendrick must have something on NASCAR or they would have done something years ago. They can inspect all they want but will always turn the other cheek when it comes to hendicks and his teams.

Yes its in the rule book NASCAR officials can inspect any car they want after a race.

According to who? Couldn't find any news story on mandatory inspections for the 48. Even if that's true, it's Nascar. They can do whatever they want. Fair has nothing to do with it.

According to Jayski - " the 48 car is likely to be a regular customer at the R&D center"

Nothing says that's mandatory. Also not a big deal since the R&D center is maybe a mile or two from Hendrick Motorsports.

I think that was as fair as Nascar could be considering what they heard.

Sure it's fair,if Nascar didn't think the 48 team was up to something they wouldn't be checking them every week after the race.

Knaus has made quite a name for himself in "questionable" rules situations. He's kinda dug his own grave with this flap. And while I seldom have anything good to say about the guy, I have to thank him for pushing the Trevor Bayne/ Jack Roush/ screwing Jeff Gordon flap off the front page.
