I say this with some bias - The Melbourne Cup.

Tomorrow will be the 151st running of the cup. It is (I think) the richest handicap in the world. Run over 3200 metres and worth $6mil.

It now attracts runners from Europe & Asia and has Irish, French & Japanese horses win it.

    Tune in Tomorrow.

As a world horse racing enthusiast I can't pick one making it not simple for me..lol.

In the USA the most popular races are the Kentucky Derby and Breeder's Cup. Also, The Triple Crown series of three races, consisting of the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness stakes, and the Belmont Stakes and is what racing here is all about..these races are in my country and loyalty will have it, and as a loyal fan the anticipation is exciting for me, the Kentucky Derby makes even the non racing fans stop and come out and bet for that first Saturday in May 2 minutes of suspense!

I also, enjoy The world famous Melbourne Cup, the so-called race that stops a nation, I love that..and attracts many of my friends..so the thought of winning with or without money is it exciting to me... In fact I ask a question on the Melbourne Cup Top 4 Placings, feel free to answer http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApfkI...

    The Grand National.

    4 miles and 4 furlongs (7,242 metres)

    Average of 40 runners

30 fences to be jumped over 2 circuits

Has the biggest fence in the world (Chair) at '5 foot 2 inches' high preceded by '6 foot' wide ditch.

Most famous fence in the world (Bechers Brook) '6 foot 10 inch) drop.

    Run since 1839

Won by some of the most famous horses of all time: Red Rum, Foinavon, L'escargot, Aldaniti, ect...

The most prolific race that every jockey in the world wants to win.

Some of the most amazing stories are about the national: Red Rum's third win, Amberleigh House giving the late Ginger McCain one last victory, Foinavon winning at 100/1 due to a melee at the fence now named in his honor, Aldaniti coming back from injury to win under R Champion recovering from cancer, the slog of the 2001 national, 'The Race That Never Was' in 1993, Tony McCoys win after 15 attempts, the jockey who fell in the brook and now has the fence named after him: 'Becher's Brook', Valentine jumping the other brook backwards, the internationaly renowed 'elbow' for the run in and of course the races themselves.

    Nothing can compare.
