Getting on an anti-depressant?
i have been depressed for about 4 years now on and off.
lately is more unbareable than usual.
i really need to get on an anti-depressent but my mom is going to tell me, like she has before, to "suck it up and be happy"
if this has been going on for 4 years, im obviously not gonna "suck it up and be happy" anytime soon. how do i convince her to take me to a dr for this and see what exactly i need to start doing. im tired of it.
i'm 18.
im on my moms insurence though

You're 18. Surely you can get to the doctors by yourself? Not hard to get in a car, or ask a friend to drive you, or get on a bus, or walk, or bike.
Then just tell them whats going on with you, let them be the judge of whether you 'need' anti-depressants.

I agree. If you are 18, then call the doc and make an appt and go. After you meet with the doc and listen to what they have to say, then you can go back and talk to your mom. She might be more willing to listen if the doc also feels that you are depressed. The doc might even be willing to talk to your mom with your permission. Also, you could look into going to see a therapist. Not everyone who has depression needs meds. Sometimes you can be ok with good coping strategies.
