it is bc they think flies are good luck, so brushing away a fly would be like brushing away the good luck.

are you naive? that's the effect it aims to make on people who watch tv, it's supposed to shock, to make people face reality and not the cushy world they live in. they should force feed it to a couple of selfish celebs with stupid amounts of money though, not people who can hardly afford to keep their family.
