Has anyone ever eaten and/or cooked rutabaga?

I got a rutabaga yesterday, thinking I could carve a jack o lantern into it. Big mistake. You need a hacksaw or jackhammer to get into one of those babies, so I smashed it and threw it into the back yard to see if the deer would eat it. Just out of curiousity, I tried a bit of it and it actually tasted quite a bit like carrot. It wasn't half bad.

Does anybody like it? Have you ever cooked it?

Update:

Thanks guys. I'm a Yankee and have never in my life had a turnip, so I have nothing to compare it to. I might try adding a little rutabaga the next time I mash potatoes. Since they are so similar to carrots (in my opinion, anyway), I imagine they'd be fine in baked goods also.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the deer come around to eat it, dammit. ~LOL~

Yes my dear, all good southern cooks know how to cook a darn good rutabaga.

It's a root vegetable on the same lines as turnips and the potato.

It can be mashed, stewed, fried and eaten raw. It's very good and good for you. Next time you make a country beef stew and one to the mix. Or if your in the mood mash them up same as you would a potato.

    They are very tasty.
