Dog got into chocolate, What should I do?

I went to a wedding recently and got those little chocolate kisses bags, so there were like 40 kisses in my suitcase. While at school one of my dogs ripped open my luggage and got to the kisses. I have 2 30 lbs. doberman collie mixes and I'm not sure which one got into it. Neither of them are showing any symptoms of toxic overdose so my question is..how long will it take for the dog, if at all, to show symptoms and what should I expect. Please don't tell me to call my vet, I know that's the obvious answer but none of my vet's are answering and the emergency vet is 60 miles away and 150 dollars just for bringing them in. I want to know which one of the dogs it is before I start shoveling out money for both.

Thanks

Update:

Another reminder: I have called the vet, about an hour ago. I have 2 vet's , a husband and wife in a practice, no answer from either and I left a message. I don't really get why you are all telling me to call a vet...Do you really think I would post an online question before calling my vet? I'm not planning on treating my pet at home I just wanted to know some symptoms before making any rash decisions with peroxide because I'm freaking out. Or I wanted to know if anyone else has ever dealt with this so please don't make me feel like a negligent pet owner, I'm a vet assistant, I've just never dealt with this before.

Update 2:

Both of my dogs showed no symptoms and no vet visit was made thankfully. Thanks to most of you for your help.

9 pieces is a serving size and weighs 41 grams according to the Hershey's website for their milk chocolate kisses. If only one of your dogs ate the entire lot, they might have gotten about 160 grams of milk chocolate.

A 30 pound dog could eat about 200 grams before likely showing only mild toxicity symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity). Some individuals may be more susceptible than others, but I think you'd be pretty safe to wait until you can get ahold of your vet. If you think the two dogs shared the chocolate, toxicity is even less likely.

HOWEVER....if the chocolate is semi-sweet or dark chocolate, that amount of chocolate could cause severe toxicity. If you can find out for sure what kind of chocolate it was, that would be critical in determining your course of action.... You could also pay $65 and use the ASPCA Pet Poison Hotline for advice - they may be able to guide you through forcing both dogs to vomit if it is within a time period that it would help any. http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/poison-control/ 1 (888) 426-4435

OMG.. 2 "CALL THE VET'S already.. Wow.. What Zombies.

Please, try to keep a rational, NON-Zombie mind.

The reason that dogs are allergic to chocolate is that is contains theobromine..which, in extreme doses can overactivate a dogs CNS. Sings to look for are the same for humans... diarrhea, vomiting, EXTREME anxiousness or hyperactivity.

It would take an amazingly HUGE amount of chocolate to poison a dog, but...as we all know... dogs can eat a lot QUICKLY, so if you see ANY of those signs, call your vet. No reason to sign up for a Carecredit card and enslave yourself in debt any further though. GL!

Arsenic is supposed to be sweet, but you wouldn't feed it to a child, would you? Don't feel bad about the past since you weren't aware, but now that you know chocolate is poisonous to your kitty don't give her anymore! Most people know that chocolate is bad for dogs, but many of us don't realize that it's harmful for cats as well. Chocolate contains theobromine, a chemical compound that humans can eat safely. But cats and dogs metabolize theobromine more slowly; as a result, even small amounts of the compound can lead to theobromine poisoning, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, excitability, panting, abnormal heart rate, tremors, seizures - and even death. Theobromine poisoning is treatable if caught early enough. But to be safe, keep chocolate away from your kitty.
