Questions about IUD insertion?
I'm 18 and getting the Mirena IUD next Tuesday. Despite what many people think you can get an IUD at any age. Well, within reason of course. It's perfectly safe for teens and women who haven't had children. If you don't believe me try looking it up for yourself, so please don't barrage me with accusations of being too young. I know exactly how this works and I decided I wanted an IUD when I started college years ago after witnessing tons of unplanned teen pregnancy within my family. I know more about birth control than most nurses I've talked to due to my extensive research, so please don't attempt to talk me out of this. I'm doing this to ensure that I will have time to finish up college baby free so I can be a prepared parent later in life if I so choose. Please don't answer this unless you respect my decision. Thanks.
Now that that is out of the way. I was just hoping someone could tell me what to expect from first hand experience. I know it will hurt, pap smears even hurt for me. But I was wondering if it might be okay for my boyfriend to be with me while they're doing it, and what it is like immediately after? Did anyone experience soreness or bleeding? Just anything you could tell me would help. I'm just scared of the process, because they told me I would be there (planned parenthood) for an hour and a half to two hours, and to take 800 mg of ibuprofen before hand. Since the insertion only takes a few minutes I want to know what else happens.
Any information is very valuable to me.
Thanks in advance!
The rant was because I already dealt with a doctor who told me he wouldn't do it because I haven't had children. That's why I went to planned parenthood. It just really pissed me off, sorry if I sounded defensive.

Wow that was a nice big rant, quite unnecessary. Anyway, insertion will hurt. You will have to ask the clinic if your boyfriend can accompany you. I felt crampy for about 6 weeks afterwards, with some spotting, but it settled down. But each person is different, and you may not experience what I did.
Edit: Ah, okey dokey. I guess it depends on the doctor, some doctors will do it, and others won't. If that planned parenthood place will do it, then it's all good.

Why would we want to talk you out of it? We insert IUDs at work all the time. Its going to hurt a bit, but they will probably numb you so you don't feel it as much - we do. Then you will be crampy a bit after - that may be a few days or a few weeks. Once you get used to it, you don't feel a thing.

It is common to have a few bleeding for a couple of days. It is frequently turning brown considering there's historical blood combined in. That might imply the bleeding is obviously slowing down. It could also be common to think the strings for awhile. The finally end up across the cervix after a couple of weeks. You can check out pushing them up your self. I did that, and it rather helped. Call your health care professional if that does not paintings. They can trim the strings a bit shorter for you.
