Trip to Disneyland from Australia Attraction Tickets?

I am traveling to Disneyland (including California Adventure Park) next year in February - March 2012 from Australia for 2 weeks essentially for my 9 and 11 year old daughters and I some questions about the sort of tickets you should buy.

I have seen a few websites where you can but tickets were you can buy tickets between 1 to 6 days.

If you are thorough and want to visit both Disneyland and the California Adventure Park how much time should spend there?

It is always usually better to prepay for your tickets before you go?

Can you buy the tickets from overseas and get them sent to an American Address?

I have seen there is a thing called the Southern California City Pass. This gives you 3 days at Disneyland and a day at Universal Studios or San Diego Zoo. Is this good value?

Because we are staying within walking distance of Disneyland I am tempted to buy a at least 6 day ticket (I suspect the kids will want to flog the place to death)

I have a web search I think I would also like to go to a couple of museums, and I wonder if there are any recommendations.

Are there any other attractions that kids would love?

I am also wondering if there are any short trip tours to the Grand Canyon from LA and back?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Australians can purchase 14 day Park Hoppers through travel agents.

Six day Park Hoppers are available through the Disneyland website. You can have an e-ticket sent to you which you then present at Will Call to pick up your tickets. Buying in advance saves you a small amount over buying them at the park. The 9 year old can get in for the child's price, anyone 10+ will ahve to pay the adult price.

Personally, I think a three-day trip is sufficient to see Disneyland and California Adventure, especially during the off season. Shame that you're not coming later in the year when California Adventure is done with its refurbishment construction and unveils Buena Vista Street and CarsLand.

The City Pass is a good value, but does not include transportation or accomodations. Both San Diego and Universal are a bit of a drive from Disneyland.

I'm sure you can find trips to the Grand Canyon through Greyline Tours, but it's going to be about an eight hour trip there and an eight hour trip back.

The others have answered your questions about buying tickets to Disneyland. I'll try to answer your other questions.

Yes, there are other places your children would enjoy visiting. There's Knott's Berry Farm, another theme park very close to Disneyland, which is a terrific place for kids.

    www.knotts.com

The Los Angeles Zoo is a fantastic place with more than 1200 animals from around the world living in habitats very much like their native homes. There's also the delightful Winnick Family Children's Zoo, a petting zoo with kid friendly activities.

    www.lazoo.org

Universal Studios and City Walk is yet another theme park but actually inside a working world-class movie/TV studio. The City Walk is a 3 block pedestriam promenade with shops, kid friendly restaurants and an 18 screen cineplex.

    www.universalstudioshollywood.com

    www.citywalkhollywood.com

La Brea Tar Pits and Museum is the excavation site of a tar pit that been bubbling for 40,000 years and has trapped more than 400 different species of creatures, most of which are now extinct.

    www.tarpits.org

El Pueblo de Los Angeles is the spot where L.A. was founded and has both the colorful and fun Olvera Street and the oldest building in L.A. which dates from 1818. Terrific on a Saturday.

    www.lasangelitas.org

Chinatown is a fabulous place to see unique shops and some excellent art galleries then enjoy a good Chinese dinner.

    www.chinatown.com

These two museums are definite "must sees":

The Getty Center is the jewel of L.A. museums. Built at a cost of one billion dollars by the Getty family to showcase the painting "Irises" by Van Gogh. There are cafes and a restaurant as well as one of the most spectacular views of the city.

Once the private residence of J. Paul Getty, the Getty Villa in Malibu is now a spectacular museum of Greek, Roman and Etruscan antiquties.

    1. buy the tickets only from the disneyland website...There are 2 choices , one where u can see only one park a day- which i advise for u since, u ll be there for a longer period and its cheaper ....2nd is a park hopper where u can visit both parks on the same day.

u can book the tickets online and u ll get an email, take the printout ...

    2. Ideally, 2- 3 days for disneyland and 1 day for california adventure is more than sufficient and u can do all the rides at least once and see the fireworks, fantastic, alladin etc....

3.Southern cali city pass is a huge bargain and u ll end up saving money

    4. u ll need 1 day at universal studio, 1 day at sea world in san diego, 1 day for san diego safari and 1 day for san diego zoo..

    5. the other places u can consider are legoland, knots berry farm.

    6. getty museum is good....

    7. i think trips from LA to grand canyon west rim which is of 2 days duration are available.

Honestly, i think 6 days for disney alone will end up being boring....i feel the excitement lasts for 3- 4 days max and after that the crowd will get to u and u ll not enjoy as much but since, ur traveling all the way from australia...i think u should see grand canyon too....

I will just add, another fun museum is the Museum of Science across from USC. L ots for kids to do there, its is somewhat on the way to the Tar pits (which are right next to a complex of museums). You will need to factor in travel time to get to many of these places and will take some planning ahead of time. I suggest you buy a travel guide to LA from a book store to really get an idea of the time required to do all this. You can also fly to San Francisco in an hour and do the city & fly back that night-that is quite fun. Virgin America flies a few times a day and Southwest flies hourly practically.
