Some Pet Problems Help Pleasee?

My dog, 1 yr.old toy poodle, 5 lbs. , just recently got a haircut a couple days ago, and I noticed yesterday that he has this patch of skin between where he defacates and urinates, and its red and a little swollen, and it looks like the skin just completely rubbed off. I tried putting some Neosporin on it, but that didn't help. Well now, he won't stop shaking, and its really worrying me. I don't think he's been eating normally either. All the vets are closed at this hour, and I'm not sure if there's any home-remedies for this...What should I do..

Just watch him,and make sure he doesn't chew at it,or irritate it any further.

You definitely want to get him into a vet as soon as you can...they will probably give him a Cortizone shot for the swelling, and put him on some pills for a week or so...to take away the irritation/pain of this sudden swelling.

Bagbalm helps if you have any...for right now.

In the future, tell the vets not to use any perfume based shampoo.

Or anything that has any type of perfume based stuff in it. Because he could be allergic to it.

Also,if you can afford it...you may want to save up to get him allergy tested. Especially if he had a huge allergic reaction like this.

He could potentially be allergic to something they are using on him. When my brittany was younger my mom used to take him to a groomer to get shaved (inside dog for a very hair conscious mother). He would come back and be fine for a few hours but by the end of the day he would have a pink tint to the white under his throat, down the front of his neck, between him front legs and halfway down his belly. One big, long, wide strip. By 24 hours later it was a full blown irritation and he would be so itchy that, if left alone for just a little while (work/school/etc) he would scratch it until it bled. It would take a couple of weeks to heal and when he needed his next haircut, we took him to a different groomer. It happened there too. Same spot. His back, face, and hindquarters were completely unaffected. We went through 4 groomers before we decided to just try it at home. No rash.

We never did figure out what was causing it. Maybe a common shampoo or product used by a lot of groomers? All I know is that, for the rest of his life (he was 2 when all of this happened and was put down 5 months ago at 17 years old) I shaved him down myself and he never had that rash again.

I doubt he will have anything happen overnight but I would call your vet in the morning and get the earliest appointment possible. It never hurts to have something like that looked at. It probably isn't life threatening, especially since it is just one little spot (where my dogs whole underside from chin to belly was affected). However, don't let that be an excuse to leave the vet out of the equation. With that spot being where it is he could do some damage there if he scratches enough. Rashes like that are extremely itchy and, when they become sensitive enough, can become extremely painful. He will live (if it is indeed what I think it is) but your vet could have something for you to put on it that would give him an IMMENSE amount of relief from it.

Good luck and I will pray it is just a rash!

They also could have nicked him there. It happens.

A lot of groomers empty out the anal glands when the dogs go for a haircut. They do this whether it's necessary or not. If a dog is on a healthy, balanced diet, then the glands take care of themselves. It sounds to me like they may have been a little over-enthusiastic and may have caused a bit of bruising and possibly infection. Call them and ask if they have carried out this procedure. If the redness and swelling doesn't go down within 24 hours then I would take him to the vet.

When my schnauzer was professionally groomed I gave strict instructions to leave his bum alone!

Just try to relax him and take him to the vet in the morning. Maybe try washing it with a damp towel.
