Does removing low profile tires destroy the tire or can the tire be re-used?
I have a sports car with factory chrome rims. I like the style of the rims, but I do not like the chrome. I want to get them powder coated black. The tires are Nitto Invo: 275 / 35-18 in the front 345 / 30-19 in the rear. My question is if I have the tires taken off, can I put them back on or will taking them off destroy the tire and require me to buy new ones? Given that the tires have 60% tread-life and new tires run about $1800, I can wait if I need to.
Appreciate your help on this.

Yes you can put the tires back on. Take them to a good tire shop to be removed and remounted. The problem with low profile tires are they have a stiff sidewall and the bead (the narrow part of the edge) that pops on to the rim if it breaks or splits the tire will be unsafe to use.
The low profile tires are the hardest to mount when they are new, and they are a little easier to remount when they are older.
So you can wait, store the tires out of the sun and weather, you do not want water getting inside of the tires.

If the work is to be done by an experienced professional using professional equipment, you don't have to worry. You can put them on at a later date using the two above (person & tools).
However, removing and putting back tires is stressful for its structure and is better avoided. Remember also that every removal/installation of tire, new and old alike, implies dynamic balancing of the tire-rim assembly and a new tire valve. Make sure old weights are removed first.
May I suggest you first use up your tires' 60% remaining life, discard them, have your rims painted and then install new tires.

I'm adding your story to my long list of reasons of why having low profile tires is just plain stupid.

you can have them broke down just like any other tire. it won,t hurt them as long as the bead around the tire don,t get ruined.

no it wont destroy the tyres. take the tyres to a tyre place have them remove them and put your new ones on. then if you decide to put the low pro's back on later just take them in and they can do it for you
