Do we wait for the Gov. Or do we fix it ourselves?

Yes, we need to fix it ourselves. In two basic ways.

First, by doing as the question suggests - buy American whenever possible, and be more mindful of spending, saving and other habits. People wanting to bring back the American ideal have to try to reach closer to that ideal themselves. I have tried to do that myself - buying less "consumer junk," volunteering or otherwise helping the less fortunate, and finding a good church and attending more.

Second, we need to remember that we are the government, ourselves. It's hard to to, but we should demand better candidates and better media coverage. Some of this is being done already. But in the end we do get the government we deserve. Being a citizen in a republic is a full-time job, and we can never let our guard down. People need to be informed and active - and again I'm glad that these seems to be more of that than there was four or five years ago.

I think many people were just "coasting along," but now have to stop and examine their beliefs and actions. So maybe the present crisis will be a blessing in disguise in the end. Time will tell.
