Is Prednisone used for anxiety?
My boyfriend went to the doctor to get some medication for anxiety (his therapist recommended that he do that...she cannot prescribe meds). He felt that the doctor did not really listen to him, and then the doctor prescribed Prednisone. Isn't that a powerful steroid used primarily for allergic reactions? He is on a lot of other medications, we are worried that the Prednisone would react with one of them and isn't really for anxiety anyway...something I read online said that Prednisone can actually cause depression! Oh, and the doctor told him "not to read any of the warnings" when he picked up the medication. Anyone able to help? Thank you!

Yeah... I'd go get a second opinion. Usually steroids are used for respiratory complications or inflammtion.

No. Prednisone is not used for anxiety. Anxiety is a self-caused mental problem. Therapy is the way to deal with it. If the therapist isn't willing to help, get a new therapist. You do NOT want to become a drugged out zombie. That is not the solution.
If a doctor can not explain exactly why a medication is being prescribed, do not take it, and get a new doctor.
Prednisone is a very serious drug with many side effects. You have to be closely monitored while taking it, and you have to stop taking it under medical supervision.
