Rheumatoid arthritis pain?
I have been diagnosed for about 2 and a half years. I am 54 yrs old by the way. I have been on so many drugs but none seem to stop the flare ups. My feet, hands and wrist pains are the worst. I was on steroids for 2 years put on loads of weight - but no change to the RA. I am now on NSAID (Ibuprofen anti inflammatory) every day and Methotrexate once a week. Has anyone any suggestions other than these two drugs? I am getting desperate. Thank you.
Thank you all so much. My (additional) problem is that I am foreigner here in Cyprus so it isn't easy to source new drugs. I have noted the suggestions and will look into it. Thanks again x

I'm sorry to hear your RA isn't under control. There are other DMARDs that your doctor can try you on and he/she could also trial you on a combination of them. If Methotrexate isn't working for you, then you should tell your doctor so they can try a different DMARD or combination.
There are new medications called Biologics or TNF inhibitors. These are pretty expensive medications and depending on which country you live in, you may have to meet strict criteria before you'll be put on this medication. The most common Biologics are Enbrel, Humira and Remicade.
Here's some information about them- http://www.rheumatology.org/practice/clinical/pati... and here is some information other medications for RA- http://www.rheumatology.org/practice/clinical/pati...
Good luck.

I have RA, if I didn't take my medications (methotrexate etc) I would be in a worse state than I am. While fish oils (drink it, tablets don't contain near enough) help, RA does not behave like the more common arthritis (ie OA which I have also been gifted with) RA is your immune system attacking your own healthy tissue. I have it in neck, jaw, hands, wrists, fingers, toes, elbows, shoulders, well you get the idea The damage rate is rapid. Take the disease modifier drugs or loose more quality of life, for the rest of your life. Do the diet and exercise etc, but without disease modifiers you could end up a cot case. Be safe, be sage

It took me a few years to end up on the right meds too. The biologic drugs (enbrel, humira, etc) have made a huge difference in my life and for a lot of my friends with RA. You should talk to your doctor about trying these. I am on enbrel and methotrexate and have been doing very well for quite some time.

Suggest natural health supplements. Good resource info on website below. For livestrong.com, just search for arthritis and sea cucumber. I take natural health supplements and my joints are pain free.
