Outlook 2010 Junk Email Automatically Opens Email?

I recently started using Microsoft Outlook 2010. My problem is that every time that I go into the Junk email folder it automatically opens the most recent email. I really don't want to open these emails unless it is accidentally in the junk folder. Is there any way to change a setting so that it will not automatically open the first email? I have looked to see if there are any options that I could change but have not been able to find any.

Thank you for any advice you may have.

This is because the ‘Reading Pane’ is set to show you a preview of the selected mail the moment you access a folder (which is the first mail from the top by default).

If you want to disable this, you can do so by going to “View > Reading Pane” on the toolbar at the top and selecting ‘Off’.

Note: This would disable the preview for the rest of the folders too.
