Min Function in Probability - what is P[ min(X,Y) ≥ 1]?

Somebody else said that:

The event min(X, Y ) ≥ 1 is the same as the event {X ≥ 1, Y ≥ 1}.

Are they telling me the truth?

    P[ min(X,Y) ≥ 1] = {X ≥ 1, Y ≥ 1}.
