Are there any valid reasons why responsible adults are not free to smoke marijuana?

Title explains it all.

Update:

Hjz, that does not address the question at hand, but I applaud your effort.

Update 2:

I am not asking who is to blame for the marijuana paradigm, the department of education or their track record on social issues. I am asking if there are any valid *reasons* why responsible adults are not *free* to smoke marijuana.

For example, one might claim that marijuana has negative effect, X, and therefore is a valid reason to prevent responsible adults from being free to smoke marijuana because of A,B and C. etc.

Update 3:

Alvin - I appreciate your input, but the question is not about minors.

Valid reasons are hard to come by. Most of the original reasons are either racial, political or both. Did you know that hemp was so useful that the growing of hemp actually became legal again during WWII?

In California and 15 other states its legal to smoke with a card. You just cant grow and sell large amounts. I don't think its right marijuana is federally illegal. Its obviously not to protect us. If that was the case tobacco and alcohol would be illegal, Both of which kill way more people. The government will learn some day. They are complete failures at social issues. Look at the department of education.

I think we are slowly getting there. Inorder to get a medical card you do have to be an adult and somewhat responsible. In general there is the concern that adults will use it in daily forms like alcohol is being used and the government does not want to put out something that might cause more accidents such as alcohol. There is also the underground sales of it the government will make no money out of what so ever.

Adulthood is a stage of life marked by change and exploration. They explore their own identities and how they fit in the world. The roles of parents weaken and the influences of peers gain greater strength.

The time during when kids are getting education and training they need for future careers. Mastery of these endeavors is vital to future success; problems with school/college going kids is that they tend to get frustration and stress, which can lead to a variety of unhealthy behaviors, And to cope up with stress they take up marijuana. They will get diverted from the goal. Thus for minors its not advicible to use drugs or marijuana for that matter.

No the government just can't make as much money as they want. So they decided it better to make it illegal even though there are even cases of cannis oil or Simpson oil even curing cancer! Yet the government find its to be a drug and worse then alcohol .... And there are no known deaths related with marijuana. Government is to blame..

Cons want the government out of our life, except in the bedroom and what you smoke?

Tax it, monitor its production and legalize it.

Prohibition has never worked, has made crooks millions of millions, hmmm....... wonder who doesn't want it legalized?

its like prostitution - we're not gonna get rid of either of them so legalize them, tax the crap out of them like they do cigarettes and liquor and our government debt would be paid off in no time.
