Which is better Battlefield 3 or MW3 and why?
I understand that it's all opinion. I'm mainly buying the game so I can play online with a friend that I no longer live close too. What are the main differences in the games and why would you buy one over the other. I will be playing the co-op games with him, some multiplayer and campaign in my spare time. What are the pros and cons of each game in your opinion.
Thanks for you help,

Would you say MW3 is pretty close to being like MW2? If so, I'm probably going to go with BF3 because I already own MW2 and I really don't want to shell out $60 for the same game.

MW3
Pros:
Played very competitively
Addicting
Easy to get into
Huge community
Large variety of customization and weapons
Very Multiplayer based.
Cons:
Rehash of MW2 (Not much of a new game)
Not very realistic
Has a reputation of being unbalanced in Multiplayer
You will want to rage quit games often
BF3
Pros:
Realistic in all aspects
Vehicles (Jets, tanks, armored cars)
Cutting Edge Graphics
Fluent Movement of your character
Destructible turfs (Some one hiding in a building? Blow it up.)
Long Campaign
Very objective based Multiplayer (Not all about getting highest kill to death ratio)
Cons:
Hard to get into (Getting used to bullet drop etc)
Not as easy to customize your weapons as in the Call of Duty series
(*Large Maps, if you don't like that sort of stuff because of people hiding everywhere)

Pretty much what everyone has said so far is true. Long story short, Battlefield is ultra realistic, and COD is nonstop action.
To be honest, I picked up BF3 on the advice of a friend who's crazy in to first person shooter games. He loves the realism of the game, and I don't blame him... graphics, realistic deaths, crazy explosions... they really paid attention to every little detail in that game and its pretty impressive.
But me personally, I traded in BF3 towards my purchase of Modern Warfare 3 after 5 days. Someone else here mentioned my biggest issue with BF3... the size of the maps. I can't tell you how annoying it was for me to run around this gigantic map for 30-60 seconds, get sniped by someone, and have to start all over again trying to find people.
In the end, being a casual gamer, I decided that if I'm only going to play a shooter online for an hour or 2 each night, I want to have fun doing it. COD provides that in droves. Nonstop, crazy action. Need to have quick reactions and be aware at every corner because people are usually popping out somewhere. Do stupid things happen in the game, like shooting someone 5 times and them running straight at you only to swipe a knife at you and kill you? Yeah, sometimes. But it's pretty rare and I would say that if there's a battle between 2 players shooting at each other, 90% of the time the more accurate and quick player wins the shootout. COD has also done a good job in MW3 with their maps... I've noticed much less "camping" from players than in MW2 and Black Ops.
Overall, I'm of the opinion that BF3 is for the super hardcore gamers, and COD is for the masses.

Modern Warfare 3 sees the return of the much loved spec ops mode. These mini games and challenges are highly addictive and push the Call of Duty gaming style to its adrenalin filled limit. We were lucky to get a play through survival mode, which is not unlike Gears of War 3's horde mode. Essentially you are tasked with defeating wave after wave of enemies, including juggernauts and yes...dogs. Not easy but incredibly rewarding.

Battlefield multiplayer pros: Fly in jets, pick your own maps.
Battlefield multiplayer cons: People use tanks ALL the time, maps are TOO big (run for the objective for 30-45 seconds, die and start back running another 30-45 seconds)
MW3 pros: Full gun customization, balanced guns, set up with perks of your choice for your preferences, and fast paced high action fun.
MW3 cons: People sit in one place and camp.
I have both and I still prefer CoD. I have all the battlefields and Call of Duties (Beaten all campaigns on hardest difficutly)

Depending on your play style, a person can make the opinion on which game is better.
BF3 is more tactical and patience driven rather than Mw3's action packed always moving gameplay.
I have Mw3 and I am glad I got it because I like the action and it's fun singleplayer.
