I have what seems to be tinnitus without hearing loss - how long will it last?

I'm currently in the midst of a protracted episode of eustachian dysfunction, and unluckily, preceded by a bad case of labyrinthitis. My doctor gave me corticosteroids for the eustachian problem, and told me the ringing in my left ear is not permanent, and would go away. There doesn't seem to be any hearing loss - the sound is about 4 khz and I can hear that easily, and up to about 15 khz.

Will this go away once my eustachian tubes are clear, is my Dr. right about that?

Update:

Let me repeat - I am not suffering from any apparent hearing loss. I can probably hear better than most... up to 15 khz in the affected ear!

Most of the time, after the underlying condition/illness is gone, the tinnitis goes away also. For a few people, this can become a chronic condition but for most, it goes away once your body is healed.

Tinnitus isn't an off-on situation! It is a severe case of dysfunction in the eustachian tube and is permanent--although there has been advancements in hearing loss and hearing problems, there is a realatively easy medicine called quietess--not sure I spelled that right, but that isn't the only one available, there are many more medicines and remedies for it../ also a not so risky procedure that is necessary--to what ever you feel comfortable with..//...Here's a link-- http://www.tinnitusrelief.com/ and http://www.quietess.com/ Good Luck ;))
