He should have been fired after the eyewitness who didn't go to the police or try to stop the crime while it was happening. That guy keeps his job for reporting first hand knowledge he actually witnessed to his superior and Paterno gets fired for reporting 2nd hand knowledge he was told about to his superiors.
It seems Paterno should have to go to help with damage control. From what I have been hearing, he had less reason to be fired than the eyewitness who still has a job though.
