Laptops are generally not good for gaming, but still can be used for it. If you are set on getting a laptop, then there are generally two main things you want to consider in how much performance it will give you; the processor speed/#of cores, and the graphics card it has. In order to game, you'll likely need at minimum a processor capable of reaching 2.5 Ghz or close to that. Many intel processors made for laptops these days "overclock" themselves while gaming so that you can get better performance, usually in the 2.7 Ghz range. Now for graphics cards. Most laptops today under 700$ have something called integrated graphics. This means that the graphics card is a part of the motherboard; not great for gaming performance. Although you -can- game with some integrated cards, it will not look very pretty and you might get lag. Look for a laptop with a dedicated graphics card such as Nvidia chips or ATI chips. Depending on the card this will almost invariably give you better performance than the integrated chips. I myself recently purchased a samsung computer (I can't recall the model #) that has an intel duel core chip clocked at 2.2 Ghz and overclocks to 2.7 for gaming with an Nvidia mGT420 graphics card. It runs a bit hot whiqle gaming (I got a laptop cooling table to help with this) but has suprisingly good performance. It cost 720$ to give you an idea of what you'll likely have to spend to get something similar.

Here are the World of Warcraft System Specs:

    Windows® System Vista64/Windows 7 OS:

    - Dual-core processor, such as the Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2

    - 2 GB RAM

    - 256 MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600 or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 or better

    - Multi-button mouse with scroll-wheel

I bought the cheapest laptop there was at Best Buy and it came out to like $500 bucks. I personally only buy Dell because they are cheap and trustworthy imo. I can't put the specs on Ultra or anything, but then again I don't need to be able to see every single blade of grass lol :) good luck!

My 3 year old Toshiba from Walmart still impresses me with the games I can play. I had to disable the tap-sensitive mouse pad for better play-control, and sometimes I disable the side-scroll function as well.

I would get the Alienware m17x. My friend has one and its really fast. The only problem is its quite heavy and costly. The cost is around $2500... so depends on your budget. Or you could get the Alienware M11xr3 which is really cheap and costs $1000 and it is really good for gaming.
