When tightening down an oil pan is it normal for the gasket to squeeze out a little around the bolts?

I torqued them down with my small torque wrench to 7 ft. lb. and which is spec. and when nearing 7 lbft, around a few of the bolts the gasket squeezed out a little is that normal?

Update:

Yes it is the right Fel-Pro gasket for the engine, I had the engine rebuilt last year and the shop I chose to have install it and swap the engine stunk and there were about 300 different little leaks they had to seal up the worst being they installed the valve cover backwards, and they didn't seal the distributor or its bolts.

They used 40lbs of gasket maker installing the oil pan I swear it was everywhere, and when I removed the pan today it was glued on tight by that crap, and just as much gasket maker was on the inside squeezed out as was on the outside (dried of course).

So I scraped all of it off the block and the pan, and then cleaned out the oil pan and pickup tube, installed a new gasket and reassembled (and filled with new oil) and when I got close to 7 lb ft on 3-4 bolts the gasket squeezed out a little and it concerned me, as of right now it is not leaking and I have drove it about 10 miles to be sure, but I was just wandering.

Update 2:

Thanks for all the replies all of them were good and I wish I could give everyone a best answer but you all know how it goes you can only pick one.

    yes, to a certain point.

with enough gasket sealer goop, it will be sealed. if its sealed, its sealed.

when torquing anything down, its best to work your way to the torque. 7 ft/lbs doesnt give you much room to stop short, but torque everything to 2 or 3 ft/lbs and then go back and torque them the rest of the way.

just keep checking your oil level and keep looking for leaks. if it leaks, try again. if not, its fine.

The gasket will always squeeze out a little bit, unless there are metal o-rings in the bolt holes of the gasket. Silicone will also squeeze out if used. Don't over torque it though.
