moral dilemma. do i report this to the r.s.p.c.a.?

my partner and his family have this dog, she's somewhere around 12-15 years old, she's a Jack Russell x chihuahua, almost blind from cataracts, has no control over her bladder, has worms, mange(or something that looks like mange), fleas, dermatitis(again or something that looks that way), and all of her claws are over grown, twisted and cracking. she also has a huge lump on her side about the size of a tennis ball which is quite substantial for such a small dog.

all of this and my partners mum wont take her to the vets, wont trim her claws, wont get her some flea shampoo or mange or dermatitis wash treatment. wont get her any worming tablets. and likes to pretend she's absolutely fine. all because she doesn't want to lose her.

i admit, if they took her to the vet the vet would probably put her down, but isn't it better to put the dog down for so that it can find peace than to keep it alive for your own sake?

do i report this? take the dog to a vet myself? or just let it be?

Not one of the reasons you mention is reason to put the dog down, don't you watch Animal Planet!! That dog will be treated and rehomed with someone that loves older animals. As it is it is simply suffering now.

Your mother in law can go to any Feed and Seed store and purchase every thing this dog needs to treat it with the exception of the tumor, and she would need a test to see if she has heart worm. But she can get her looking much better if she has any real desire to take her to a vet. Feed and Seed stores are where your local farmers shop and are also know as Farm and Feed stores, Farm Supply Stores, Tractor Supply stores and other companions of the words.

I myself would turn them in to the local SPCA and request they do not tell who placed the call, I would also go in in person. It is unfair for the poor dog to suffer so.

Morally dilemma is right your between a rock and hard place

Do whats best for the dog she is suffering the lump is a tumor can be cancerous I do not understand why this dogs nails are not being taken cared of if you cant get them to do right by the dog the best suggestion is get the dog groomed that way when she finally goes into doggy heaven she had lived her last days happy just surprise them by taking her to a groomer have her nails and good bath with treatment for dermatitis this way she will feel better or have the groomer come to your home if you able you can do it yourself trimming nails maybe a challenge sounds like she hasn't had them done for a long while

then after what they see they may have her put down that is one way going about it

    Hope this helps

AHHHHH, that really is a difficult one. I bet you are worried because you don't want to do something behind your partners back and also worried because you are worried about the dog.

First things first, that dog needs the vet. Imagine being a dog and then not being able to say when we were ill. I think that now that you have realised that she is ill, someone needs to do something to look after her.

I would talk to them about it and basically tell then that the dog is suffering, and even though they don't want to do anything about it so that they can hang on to the dog, they should other wise the dog is just going to pass away, feeling horrid. Wouldn't they prefer that when the dog eventually dies it has lived a happy and healthy life?

Good luck, and just remember, that dog is suffering so you need to do something about it....

well this is hard for you i have no doubt but you need to do whats best for the animal. you need to talk on its behalf and get it the help it needs. you should defiantly call the rspca and tell them you want to remain anonymous. if you remain anonymous then you can be there for the animal by doing what was best for it and also try to be there for him family.

but the dog does need to come first and the best way for this to happen is to get the r.s.p.c.a involved.

Don't let it be! that poor dog must be in so much pain! sit down with the owners and try and convince them that the dog is suffering. If they still refuse, you should report it. It's up to you if you tell your family that you were the one who called though... they might figure it out and be mad if you don't tell them.
