Why can nobody respect the fact that I don't want pictures taken/put on Facebook?

I hate getting my picture taken. I am so un-photogenic and I just don't like it. At any family occasion or even when out with friends, people try to force me to get my picture taken. It's frustrating, annoying and hurtful that they can't so much as respect that I don't want it taken. It's not even getting it taken, it's so much worse when they put them on Facebook. I just do not want pictures of me on Facebook. If someone puts up some, I ask them to take them down but they don't.

Why is it such a big deal? I just simply don't want pictures of me on the internet. Nobody can respect that. How can I make them understand?

On the one hand, I can understand keeping pictures of you off of the Internet. Once it's on the net, it's there forever. It will never be completely deleted.

On the other hand, my sister was this sort of a prima-dona growing up as a teen. We would have to sneak pictures in. She would throw fits. And some of the only pictures we have of her as a teen were snuck in and look awful. If she would have just grown up and let people take pictures and smiled nicely then we would have had some good pictures. See, I agree with your right to privacy, but I also believe your family has a right to have pictures of you. You're changing every day, every year, and just because you don't like pictures doesn't give you the right to rob people of those memories and the pictures to help. Also, there are times when emailing pictures or using a photo-site to send to family can really be helpful.

My sister has gotten over it. She looks at the pictures now and realizes she didn't look nearly as bad as she thought she did, and that we wanted to remember how she looked because we loved her. (The only exception was when she shaved her head, we took those pictures to laugh later. But if you're going to let your 14 year old friend shave 'steps' in your hair, then that IS cause to laugh...)

Now, how do you get them to understand? I would say that first they would have to feel that you're not going to take away the pictures from them. And then just keep repeating yourself. Say that if they want to send it to grandma, use email. That you have 'an online stalker' that you really don't want them to have pictures of you. And then keep on it. I don't like anyone but ME to put pictures of my kids or myself on Facebook, and my family knows why (I had identities stolen when I got pregnant with my first, some stupid teen who wanted attention.) If I know that all pictures originate with me, then if I see a picture of my kids somewhere then I can get the webmaster to delete it as 'owner' of that picture. Not everyone agrees with me, but most are respectful at this point, but it took a couple of years and there's still one who ignores me.

People don't understand how much it bugs someone, until they've been in your situation.I have the same problem (read below lol), and i would just bug the person until they take it down.Sometimes i offer them to keep me cropped out..You may even have to ignore the person until they take the picture down. You could also put up an ulflattering picture up of them and see how they like it, i've done it before..

Thank you so much for posting this. I HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. My bestfriend is very pushy, and (of course with my luck) Shes the type of person who loves taking pictures at anytime in the day. Most of the time i can weasel my self out of the situation, but not on birthdays or holidays.I'd rather have a picture taken and kept personal then put on fb.I have BDD, which makes it even more diffcult to take pictures for me.

    A Picture Of Respect

When did they ever have respect for women across the board? Women are still the largest group of people who are that are discriminated against. They are discriminated against for multitudes of reasons, but mainly I think it has to do with the struggle for male dominancy. I think the better question would be 'Where are all the other men that respect women?' I have faith that there are some out there but my faith is waining since 9 of of 10 times I hear men talk about women; be it thier mother, sister, lover, or a stranger. I can only hope to find a man who treats me decent, let alone one who treats me equal. LOL How old are you, and are you single? You seem like a good catch. just kidding. I have a BF ........ he's 26 years older than me though .... the closest to a gentelman I've ever dated, unfortunately he's nearly twice my age.

Then don't take the pictures. You can't make somebody do something with their pictures. You have the right to not take one.

well you can untag the picture if they tag you in the photo, or you certainly used to last time i checked.

but how do you tell people? if you just whine at them they just think your being a grumpy so and so before an event when someone has a camera pull them aside and just say you dont want your picture taken/put on facebook, this is much more likely to get noticed.

I think it is rude to take a picture and randomly post it on facebook. My 11 yr old hates his taken too. I rarely do unless he allows me. I get beyond mad if someone posts my childrens pictures online and have been known to go to the offender and demand they take the picture down.

I know how you feel, nothing is private anymore, everything ends up on facebook.

The only thing you can do is just not let them take pictures, put something in front of your face when they do, or look away.

Thank you! I'm not the only one. My friends get really funny when I tell them to take it down. They don't though. It frustrates me so much!

I personalyl think it should be illegal to post a picture without permission.

NOTE: PLEASE READ: Is it just me, or is yahoo playing up?

Why don't you just delete your facebook account?
