PetCode microchip registration?

Hi all,

My partner and I just purchased out first puppy (st bernard) :)

The pup has come micro chipped but hasn't got any of our details on it. Does anyone know where we register our details in case she get lost ect?

I have phoned our vet but she wasn't much help and the breeder didn't give us a registration form or anything.

I have the chip number and a slip of paper that says PetCode, I assume this is the make of the chip.

The breeder should have given you the official microchip registration papers. Where I live these papers have a change of ownership section on the back of the form where the breeder signs and then you fill in your details and sign. You send it off to the microchip registry and as long as you have the breeders signature and your details and signature you will be on record as the owner.

No microchip registry here will change details without signatures. It can't be done with a phone call because anyone could call them who is the not the new owner of the dog.

Call the breeder and ask her to sign the back of the form and send it to you. Then you do the rest.

ADD: It is not necessarily the Humane Society who does the chipping. Anyone who is licensed to microchip a dog can do it. Vets are licensed to chip dogs.

Most vet's offices or animal shelters can scan the dog and tell you the chip ID number. Are you sure it's a HomeAgain and not an Avid FriendChip or other brand? If you know the brand, you may want to call the vet's first and ask if they implant the same brand. (They will still be able to scan the chip regardless of its maker, but if they use the same brand they can provide you with some registration forms.) After you scan the chip, you will want to call the company and ask how to change the registration on the chip. They can walk you through the process - as well as check to see whether the first owners actually completed the registration.

Try your local Humane Society. They chip the animals so they may be able to at least give you some information. You usually send the info in some where with a small fee. If your puppy should get lost and the chip is checked it will come back to where the animal was chipped. They will have the info of who had the dog chipped. That is why it is important for you to get that info changed. Your local Humane Society officer should have all the info you need.

Why don't you get back in touch with the breeder? They should have given you the form to transfer the pup's details into your name along with the KC registration form and detals of all the health checks the parents have had (together with worming schedule and a diet sheet)
