Page numbers and headers in MS word?
I want a page number on every page but the header should not be present at the first page. When I use the option 'different first page' to remove the header from the first page the page number (which is the footer) also goes away. Any ideas how to solve this. Thanks
(PS I am using Ms Word 2007)
The document is about 200 pages long with multiple chapters (this issue appears on every first page of a chapter), so manually putting is not very feasible.

Separate the first page from the rest of the document with a Section Break Next Page. Now break the link between the header of the first page and the header of the second page by clicking in the header of the second page and clicking on the Design Tab and clicking Link To Previous to break the link between the headers. Doing this, the footer is still linked to the previous section and if the page numbering is in the footer the second page will continue from the first.
This means that the header can have the link to the previous section broken while the footer remains linked.

Just click on the footer of page one and go to the insert tab and click page numbers then choose a bottom of the page, number. It will just show up as normal.
Or another suggestion, You know its the first page you could just type the number 1 in and press CTRL+E to put it in the centre

I've had this issue with college papers in the past, I remember being to lazy to figure it out myself so I ended up printing the first page and last pages separately. It's a sucky way to do it, but it got the job done.
