Sounds like an allergic reaction to something. You can give the dog some Benadryl (Diphenhydramine) 25mg. Weigh your dog and dose the Benadryl (the generic is cheaper and exactly the same) at 1 mg per pound of body weight twice a day. If the swelling and hives go away, then you have it licked but if they don't or if they get worse you will need to have your vet take a look and probably prescribe stronger medication.
It's always a good idea to keep Benadryl on hand in order to handle bee stings, bug bites, and allergic responses with your dog(s).

Well, as long as whatever you did to cause the allergic reaction didn't also happen to the dog then no, the dog will not get the hives or allergy. Also, there isn't a sickness that is zoonotic (contagious) from people to animals.

Hives are certainly an allergic response. You should talk to your vet about this. My dachshund had hives once and it seemed he was allergic to fresh cut grass (chlorophyll???) . It would be best if you could figure out what the reaction was to then eliminate the source (if it's possible). Also, for relief from the itchy hives you can use Benydril....but you have to talk with your vet as any animal could react to human meds in a bad way.
