I need to put my spec script out there can anybody tell me how?

Is your screenplay in the proper format, and somewhere between 90 and 120 pages long?

If so, then you register your work through the Writers Guild of America, West (www.wgawregistry.org).

Get a copy of the Hollywood Representation Directory, and start writing query letters to agents and managers. You don't write them "one at a time," you write to ALL of the ones you feel would best represent you and your interests. Respond promptly to those that write back, and hire the one that you feel the most comfortable with. They will shop your work for you.

The Writers Market is for writers. You need representation as a SCREENwriter, and you don't want some literary agent who represents novelists or poets.

Make sure you have used the expected format used for screenplays e.g. minimal directing, no suggestions for music, actors, and camera directions. Otherwise is goes in the slush pile.

Step 1. Register your script with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) This is a must do.

Step 2. Buy the current edition of the Writer's Market - big bookstores and libraries have them

Step 3. Do your research in the Writer's Market to find an agent that :

A. is interested in screenplays of your Genre.

B. Will accept scripts from new screenplay writers (not all will)

4. Write your pitch letter (query Letter) Make sure you write it in the expected format - There are a few books about how to write query letters.

5. Send your query to only one agent at a time, and include a self-addressed, postage paid envelope so you can ensure a return reply.
