Why ask a question and not give a best answer?
I don't understand why people ask questions and not take the time to pick a best answer. What I've been doing is if a question will take time and effort on my part (researching the question for them) and I see that they do not give best answers, I move on and do not bother with answering them. I don't care who they pick, just take the time and pick someone. At lest thank them for taking the time. So My questions are:
1. Why be such a P.O.S. to ask someone to research something for you and not bother to thank them?
2. Would it be ethical to tell them "If you would take the time to give best answers for the person that took the time and effort to answer your question then maybe you would receive more answers"?

Well Chet, I pretty much agree with you, but as to why?
I think you know as well as I do, that most people really don't want a correctly researched answer on Yahoo Answers.
Most people on Y/A Just want to rant, because of their perceived injustices against them and/or their friends, and they want to see answers that agree with their viewpoint, whether their views and assumptions are right, or completely wrong.
I myself, sometimes think it's not worth the effort at all anymore.
What's the point of giving a link to the law and showing people EXACTLY what the law says? Most of the time they just make a rude comment, give you a thumbs, down, and tell you that you are wrong, in spite of the fact that you give them a link to the state website and not only tell them, but also SHOW them exactly what the law says.
I see answers from people who claim to be peace officers for the last twelve or twenty, or (pick a number) years, who seem to have no clue as to what the law actually says, and even they will say you are wrong when you show them a link to the appropriate statute.
Most people really don't want answers, and a vast majority, particularly in the Law Enforcement and Police section, seem to want nothing more than to rant and hate against others because they got in trouble for something.
This is, unfortunately, the main problem with society today.
Nobody wants to take responsibility for anything anymore.
When they do something that is illegal, immoral, or both, they want to blame everyone else except themselves for their actions.
Since Yahoo Answers is also a place where there is complete anonymity, people feel that they can spew hate and rant against anyone who disagrees with them, with no fear of ever actually facing that other person.
But there are actually a few who really are looking for an honest and truthful answer.
I generally get active on Yahoo Answers for awhile, then when it gets to the point where I am disgusted with the rudeness of most people on here, I just forget about it for awhile.
Eventually, more questions will be posted, and all you can do is try your best to find ones who look as if they may really be looking for the truth, as opposed to the majority who want nothing more than to rant.
If I answer a question and people get an attitude about it, I say to hell with them. They weren't worth my time if they have nothing good to say after I took the time to look it up for them.
People like that eventually get what they deserve in life.
You know the old saying. "Ignorance of the law is no excuse."
From what I see, most people are VERY ignorant about the law, even when you show it to them in writing with a link to the appropriate statute.
Just look at the positive side of it all, when those few who do want a truthful answer actually do say thank you. I know it's rare, but sometimes it does happen.

I really dont understan either. The asker actually gets rewarded also. The only time that ive never picked best answer was when i asked if people wanted to play a game on xbox or sometging like that. Where the question is not really a question its more of an invitation. But i always choose a best answer

Reasons why:
* Asker may have forgotten to/or may not have been able to check back within the 4 day limit in which the question was posted. (e.g. Computer went down) therefore, the answer was automatically sent out for community (vote) to pick best answer.
* Asker couldn't decide which answer was most accurate (if any).
* Asker wasn't able to decide if any of the answers were correct, so the answer was left up to the voters to decide.
* Question may have been asked as an inadvertent poll/survey question; thus, the asker wanted the opinion of the voters to see which they favor.
* Asker didn't like any of the answers, and wasn't aware of the "no best answer" option, and deleted the question, instead of turning it over to the community for voting.

I don't answer questions to get best answer. I answer questions on topics i know something about. Some questions asked don't deserve to be read much less deserve an answer. Some question lack pertinent information. The closest i come to judging best answer is pointing out a particular answer to the asker of a question.
