i have just brought a house and it seems to be sinking. Nothing was picked up on the survey what happens?

What happens if it needs alot of work as all of our money is now tied up in the house and we would never have brought it if we knew it was sinking. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Update:

But if i payed for a survey to pick up on any of these problems they havent done the job they was paid to do.

Update 2:

Im in the uk it does.

    wow.....Maybe your homeowner's insurance company?

Two options - one, you could sue the former owners for non-disclosure of a material defect...however, you would have to prove that they knew the house was sinking. Second, you could check the warranty to determine whether sinking is covered (if you didn't get a warranty, then this step is not applicable).

If neither apply (say a new house with no warranty), then any repairs will be out of your pocket (sorry but this is why you never tie up all your money when buying a house).

Yes, your surveyor has done the job h was paid to do. How do you expect him to tell you the house is sinking if there no evidence that it was sinking at the time of the survey and inspection? Yes, the house may have started to sink AFTER you bought the house. All you can do is contact your surveyor and inquire.

    home owners insurance

check with the state; do they require an inspector to do a dirt test? It seems to me

that would be an essential part of what they do!! Few houses sink but some do.

    --------------

you can save any home from a sink hole but you have to act fast--

the hole may be 5 inches, 5 ft or 50 ft deep; from dirt or rocks below moving

from something.......or being pushed around because of an underground river.

-----------sonar can detect these things; that is how and why wells are dug and

    pipe lines laid safely.

[can't tell u about the law re inspectors in the UK; not appraisers but inspectors]

Unless you have a written contract with the surveyors that SPECIFICALLY lists that they will check for that, you are out of luck. A generally (like 95% of the time) will only determine the legal boundaries of your property.

What happens now is you find out what is wrong and you fix it. Your house, your problem now.

If your contract with the surveyor says they shoudl check and they missed it, then you have something.
