If you have a lot of old apps based on PowerPC code and there are no Intel compatible replacements, DO NOT UPGRADE TO MAC OS X LION because it lacks Rosetta support unlike Mac OS X Snow Leopard. I would stick with Mac OS X Snow Leopard for now but if at some point, they stop supporting new software for Snow Leopard, I would dual boot with Mac OS X Snow Leopard with Rosetta support (if you need it) and Mac OS X Lion (or possibly just the next version that comes out in the next 12-18 months). Otherwise, if having no compatiblity with older PowerPC based apps is not important to you, you could just update to Mac OS X Lion exclusively and enjoy a few new features and improvements.
