Can you "borrow" books on the Kindle Fire?

Do they have library sort of thing?

Hi, Farah, Amazon "library"service is a weak attempt of Amazon to overcome the advantage of Nook from Barnes & Noble as if you walk in with any Nook to any Barnes & Noble store, you’re allowed to read ANY available eBook for free while in the store via free provided in the store Wi-Fi where Nook eBook store has over 2 million of paid books and about the same number of free public domain books. Kindle "library" has very limited content - about 10,000 ebooks - and only those are available for free for prime members (and the membership costs you $79 a year.) Also, with Nook you can check out eBooks from public libraries - just need to get Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software (free from Adobe site).

Many libraries use a system that uses secured pdf files. Kindle products will only convert unprotected pdfs. So unless things have changed the answer is no.

    edit:

I was doing some research and things have slightly changed from when I last checked. Kindle format is now available with Overdrive Media the system used by many public libraries in North America. However not all books offered in the library's e-book collection will be in Kindle format so just be aware of that and double check the available formats before you check out. Most libraries state outright what formats are available for a book and many popular books do have Kindle formats.

Amazon has a library with their Amazon Prime membership & I believe you get 1 month free with the Fire.

Public libraries with Overdrive E-books lend Kindle format. Check your library to see if they offer this

Overdrive started this process at the beginning of the year & finally got it up & running in September.
