Is it ok for me to drink this milk? (passed expiration date)?

I have 2 milk cartons that have remained unopened, and today I noticed that the expiration date on tem says 26th of october...

Do I have to throw them away or is ok to drink since they haven't been opened?

Actually, you have 7 days, one week, to use the milk after the sell by date. But, consider this: How was the previous portions used? Is there someone in the house drinking directly from the carton? Has it been left out long enough to reach room temperature before being re-chilled? If these aren't a concern, then consider this one last thing. How much "contaminated" air ratio to milk is in the container. If you're down to just a drizzle of milk, and it's the middle of the 7 days past, cut your loss, and get more milk. Unless this is for cooking or baking. Then just use it. If the container has more milk than air, smell, taste a small amount, and go for it!

If after you open them, they smell OK and look OK they maybe OK.

If they are not 'long life' milk I would imagine not.

Well there are some cases that they will be okay, but personally I would dump them. you could try to smell it and if it smells okay maybe even taste.

  • If they're cardboard dump them, if they're plastic, smell, then if they smell crappy, dump them.
