Skyrim: What are the benefits of buying a house?
I know you can buy a house in the game... I just want to see the usefulness of spending a lot of gold for it. I want to save up for one.

You can store all of your extra items in the house without ever losing them or having to sell them because you character is carrying to much.

Houses are the only place you can store things you want to hold on to (like specialty arms and armor) and not fear they will disappear. Your spouse will also live in your house with you and also its a free bed where you can sleep without having to buy a room at the local inn.
I bought and fully decked out the house in Whiterun and I have every cubord and chest filled with alchemy ingredients, smithing items, soul stones, foodstuffs and my weapons and armor for later use.

They are useless as you can sprint faster than they can :D they are good for long travels but when you ride off them to kill enemies they get scared and run off, so you have to search for them. They are more of a drag than something useful. Hope that helps.
