I've broken the choices down and I'm either moving to Paris or Toulouse?

I need help, I've gone off some details and I have all the money, I know French and I'm moving to one of the cities. I need one that has good shops, good Café's, and coffee shops. After those I got Paris and Toulouse. Please help and give me more details on why the city you picked is better.

I like the idea about going to each to see what they are like first. But why limit your self to just two choices? Why not do a little circuit and include Lyon, Nice, Rouen, Strasbourg, Lille and Bordeaux? You are talking about moving there for heavens sake - not just a year exchange or something like that. Or maybe you can rent for a while in one of the places and take weekend trips to different cities and then pick the one you like. Since the country is so well connected with trains this is going to be easier than you think.

But if you can't take a little tour, and it is just between these two places, it is like choosing a small provincial university city vs a huge world class city. Do you want the hustle and bustle and excitement or not? Do you want to be closer to nature or are you a city person? Do you want to be able to drive around the country side on weekends and visit farms and wineries or do you prefer urban activities? Toulouse has some charming shops and cafes - but lets face it - not near as many as Paris. Price is an issue too - you would save a lot of money living in Toulouse vs Paris. Toulouse will also be a little warmer since it is more to the south.

It all depends on your reason for being in France, how long you're allowed to stay there, do you intend to work, or are you just a tourist.

Paris is expensive for a long-term stay, but that's the city I'd prefer as there is so much to see and do. Toulouse is great is you're young and want the student vibe. Cost of living is cheaper, and you're fairly close to the coast and the Pyrenees.

Paris has so much more cultural activities, museums, galleries, than Toulouse.

Looking for good shops and cafés? Paris wins hands down.

But maybe you should visit both cities for a week trial and see how you fell then.
