Your view on a situation involving a promise ring?

I have been talking to a girl for about 5-6 months and we started off as just friends with no real intention of dating. After talking for this long and going out together, we started to grow feelings towards each other and want to start dating. She comes from a very Christian oriented family and her mother has rules in place in order to date her daughter. I have already spoken to her parents and advised of my intentions of dating their daughter. Her mother did put the stipulation that for her to officially accept me as dating her daughter, I need to present her with a promise ring. I believe a promise ring is intended for when an engagement ring is too expensive at the time, but you are moving towards marriage with the person. I declined to purchase a promise ring and it has everyone involved in an ackward position. Am I wrong in declining there request in buying the ring since my belief is different? Some suggestions or ideas please =]

I have a promise ring, but it is one my parents gave me to help remind me to stay pure. If I were you, I would explain my position to her parents and maybe suggest another symbol of commitment. Just make sure you show them that you intend to have some level of commitment to her, but you think a ring is too significant for this stage in your relationship. Possibly a class ring or something to show you're serious, but not engagement-serious yet. You could also try a charm bracelet and add charms to it at different points in your relationship. I think you should stick with your convictions, but realize that what they are asking comes from a desire to protect their daughter and maybe you can come to a compromise. Hope that helps! =)

it's deffinatly your choice to buy one or not but wow you two have barely been dating long at all I have been with my bf for years and nothing nor am I in a rush for either a promise ring or wedding ring , you're for sure right dont buy her one ...for right now anyways:)

Edit: its crazy the mom would even want that actually she should want to get to know you first too not just pawn her daughter off to the first guy who will buy a promise ring

Kofi Kingston (By rely out) Victoira & Mickie James Evan Bourne Kane John Cena (Help from Kane) WQ: Dolph Ziggler. I rather consider he has a satisfactory long run forward of him. He's a satisfactory wrestler, And one day i consider he'll be major eventing.
